Pescara: Coast, Culture and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Pescara
Pescara brings together the Adriatic coast, museums, art venues, and routes for cycling and walking. Wide, golden beaches define the waterfront, while the cultural offering ranges from historic majolica to modern, contemporary, and photographic art. As you plan your stay, you can focus on these different sides of the city in turn.
Museums and Art in Pescara
The Museo Paparella Treccia Devlet houses a permanent collection of historic majolica from Castelli. The collection comprises 151 majolica artefacts dating from the 16th to the 19th century. The Museo Civico Basilio Cascella offers a different focus: it preserves more than 600 works by the Cascella family. Together, the two collections showcase different approaches to art history, from ceramic works to the creations of an artistic family.
The Museo Casa Natale di Gabriele d’Annunzio displays war memorabilia, historic photographs, explanatory panels about military campaigns, and the poet’s general’s uniforms. The house where he was born was declared a national monument in 1927. The Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo adds to the city’s museums with multimedia exhibits and digital audio guides in several languages.
In the city centre, the IMAGO Museum offers 1,200 square metres of exhibition space for modern, contemporary, and photographic art. Its permanent collections are spread over several floors. You can shape your museum visit around different themes, whether photography and contemporary art or historic collections and local artists.
The Nave di Cascella also brings art and the coastal setting together. The Carrara marble sculpture is inspired by an ancient galley and stands on the waterfront promenade near the beach. It is recognised as a place of cultural interest and has been described as a witness to Pescara’s institutional and collective identity.
Coast, Cultural Venues and Routes
A former distillery in the Pineta dannunziana, the Aurum is now a cultural centre. It hosts events, exhibitions, and conferences. The Piazzale Michelucci at the Aurum provides space for summer events, exhibitions, open-air evening cinema, concerts, and theatrical performances. If a particular date matters to your plans, check the current programme before your trip.
For a walk in the urban setting, the pedestrianised section of Corso Umberto I begins at Piazza Rinascita. It runs past shops and cafés. Together with the wide, golden beaches, this area shows two different sides of Pescara: a city stroll and the coastal landscape.
The 466-metre-long Ponte del Mare connects the north and south of Pescara. The bridge has a cycle path and a pedestrian path. The details of the cycle network are also specific: the northern C1 Bike to Coast section is 4.2 kilometres long and, according to the route description, can be cycled in 15 minutes. The southern section connects the Ponte del Mare with Pescara’s boundary with Francavilla al Mare. One of the main attractions along this route is the Porto Turistico.
The Riserva naturale Pineta dannunziana offers a different perspective on the landscape. It covers 56 hectares, of which 35 hectares remain in a natural state. More than 100 bird species live in the reserve, including many migratory birds; plants typical of wetlands also grow there. The Pineta thus complements the coastal and urban themes with a natural area of its own, with distinctive plant and bird life.
The Marina di Pescara may also be a factor when planning your trip. It is connected to the airport, railway station, and motorway. There are sailing and nautical schools on site, and you can also rent equipment for water sports.
