Pescara: Nature, Museums and Culture
Accommodation in Pescara
When looking for a hotel in Pescara, it can help to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: time in the pine forest, cultural events, museum visits or a ride along the Ciclovia Dannunziana. The places below cover these interests with very different themes. Their differences can make it easier to decide which themes matter most for your trip.
Nature and culture in the Pineta dannunziana
The Riserva naturale Pineta dannunziana covers 56 hectares, 35 hectares of which are in a natural state. You can go for walks and have picnics among the pine trees. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can explore the area on foot or plan a picnic break here. The area figures offer two different points of reference: the total size of the nature reserve and the portion that remains in a natural state.
The Aurum is also located in the Pineta dannunziana. The building was formerly a distillery and is now a multifunctional cultural center. Summer events, exhibitions, open-air cinema in the evening, concerts and theater performances take place at Piazzale Michelucci. So, alongside walks and picnics, a cultural program is another possible focus. If you are interested in a particular summer event, check the date in advance.
Museums with different focuses
The Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo traces the history of humans in Abruzzo from their first appearance as Paleolithic hunters. The exhibits are arranged in 16 large exhibition halls and use multimedia tools as well as educational workshops. The museum thus combines a historical perspective reaching far into the past with different forms of presentation.
The Museo Civico Basilio Cascella has a different focus: it preserves more than 600 works by the Cascella family, created between the 19th and 20th centuries. Compared with the history of humans in Abruzzo, the focus here is on the work of one family and pieces from two centuries. If you are choosing between the museums, these different themes may help you decide.
The Museo Casa Natale di Gabriele d’Annunzio is located on the main street of the ancient city of Pescara. Its location places the museum explicitly within this historic urban setting and adds another option for a culture-focused visit alongside the two museums with their distinct themes.
The Ciclovia Dannunziana
For a bike ride, the Ciclovia Dannunziana offers another distinct focus. It is 2.405 kilometers long and connects Pescara’s administrative center with the southern waterfront promenade. Its length and the link between these two points provide a concrete reference for planning. As the route may be updated following infrastructure changes, check the current route before setting out on a specific ride.
