Villareia combines fertile land along the Pescara with the Church of San Sebastiano, earthen houses and local festivals. If you’re looking for hotels for a stay in Villareia, these themes can help you explore the destination according to your interests: you might focus on architectural history, archaeological traces, the river landscape or a particular event.

Rivers and an agricultural heritage

Villareia lies on fertile land to the left of the Pescara River. The waters of the nearby Pescara and Nora helped make the area’s small agricultural plots very fertile. The riverside location and agriculture offer a distinctive way to experience the area, complementing its architectural sights and festival traditions with a landscape perspective.

The Church of San Sebastiano

The Church of San Sebastiano was built in 1989 to a design by engineer Angelo Faieta. Its interior consists of a single hall with a polygonal floor plan. “Polygonal” describes a shape with multiple sides and here refers to the geometry of the hall, while “a single hall” describes its spatial layout. The church also has a hollowed-out bell tower. The construction date and architect put its origins into context; the interior and tower provide further, clearly distinct architectural features. If you’re interested in architecture, the focus at San Sebastiano is therefore on its design, floor plan and bell tower.

Earthen houses and archaeological traces

The earthen houses are among the sights in the hamlet of Villareia. They complement San Sebastiano with a different type of building and a different construction material. An archaeological trace leads to Ripa: during earthworks in 1981, terracotta vessels and oil lamps were found along the edges of the alluvial terrace at the Torrente Nora. The earthen houses represent the area’s built heritage, while the find offers a specific glimpse into its archaeological past. In Villareia, architectural sights and historical finds thus provide distinct ways of exploring local history.

Festivals and dates

The festival calendar can also be useful when planning your trip. The Festa della Madonna della PietĂ  takes place in Villareia every year around the revered image. For the 2026 edition, Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of September were scheduled; the dates vary from year to year. So if you want to plan a future trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition. The carnival parade with allegorical floats from Villareia and Vallemare held its ninth edition in 2026 and was scheduled for February 15. In 2026, then, there were seasonal events at different times of year: Carnival in February and the Festa in September. The comparison shows two clearly distinct periods within the year.

The Nora as a hiking route reference

A section along the Nora was also planned for a hike. It ran from Little Ranch in Villareia to the San Martino di Vallemare sports field. This makes the Nora a reference point for a specific route, not just for descriptions of the terrain and agriculture. While the church and earthen houses bring the built environment into focus, this route draws attention to the Nora and its two endpoints.
