If you are looking for a hotel in Case D'amico, you can plan your trip around your own interests. A riding route runs between Pianella and Case d'Amico; check the conditions along this route before setting out. Other themes range from a church built in Pianella and a church constructed over an existing medieval structure to historic presses, a living tradition and two walking routes. This allows you to explore cultural history, landscapes and activity as distinct points of interest.

Walking routes through olive groves or among hill lakes

“Le Vie dell’Olio” is a tourist route of about 10 kilometres through the landscape and olive groves of Pianella. It runs entirely along paved roads and can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or by car. “Le Vie dei Laghi” is a route about 18 kilometres long, which also follows paved roads and can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or by car. Some of the area's many hill lakes lie along this route; they provide habitat for numerous resident and migratory waterbird species. Length and landscape are useful points of comparison: “Le Vie dei Laghi” is longer, while “Le Vie dell’Olio” passes through Pianella’s olive groves. Both routes follow paved roads and can be travelled using the same three modes of transport.

Building history and historic presses

The Chiesa di S. Maria Maggiore was built in Pianella towards the end of the 12th century. Its large circular opening features star-shaped elements, concentric relief frames and eight radially arranged columns. “Concentric” describes frames arranged around a central point; “radial” refers to columns aligned outwards from the centre. This makes it possible to understand the opening not only by its shape, but also by its elements and their arrangement.

The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate was built over an existing medieval structure. It offers a different perspective from S. Maria Maggiore: there, the focus is on the date of construction, towards the end of the 12th century, and the geometric design of the opening; here, on the building’s relationship to an existing structure. Both churches connect architectural form with the past, but through different specific details.

The Antico Frantoio D'Annibale displays wooden screw presses from the 18th century and steel screw presses from the 19th century. A comparison highlights the materials and dates: the wooden screw presses belong to the earlier of the two groups, and the steel presses to the later one. The olive mill thus complements the churches with a theme from the history of technology; here, the focus is on two types of press and their chronological order.

A living tradition

Lu Bbongiorne is a centuries-old tradition that can be traced back to the Lombard period and is still alive today. It is characterised by active participation. Unlike the architectural details of the churches or the presses in the olive mill, this theme combines deep historical roots with an explicitly contemporary dimension.
