Blankenhof combines historical ties to Gevezin with a locally named lake and an estate complex whose many buildings have been preserved and remain in use. The municipality lies on the B104. If the exact location is important for your plans, check it against the details of the individual hotel listing.

Blankenhof and Gevezin: two historical points of reference

Blankenhof was first mentioned in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz state calendar in 1805. In 1847, it was separated from the feudal estate of Gevezin and elevated to an independent hereditary estate. Gevezin itself was first mentioned in a document as early as 1311. The village was formerly a triangular Angerdorf, a type of village arranged around a central common green. The dates highlight different things: Gevezin’s documentary mention dates further back, while the information about Blankenhof describes a later change in the structure of the estate.

The Gevezin estate complex is also part of the area’s historical heritage. Many of its buildings have been preserved and remain in use. Gutshaus Gevezin is located in the Kuppiges Tollensegebiet bird sanctuary. This offers two different points of interest for a stay: the history of the village and the estate landscape handed down over time.

The manor house, park and surroundings

The spacious estate park at Gutshaus Gevezin is accessible from the dining room and the centrally located garden room. Activities mentioned include morning walks, a yoga session, meals beneath apple trees and extended sunbathing. This describes the park as part of what the manor house offers; the manor house is available for weddings or birthdays for a maximum of 35 people. If you are planning a celebration, confirm availability in advance.

In the immediate surroundings of the manor house, you can explore natural woodlands and meadows on foot or by bicycle and listen to birdsong.

Kleiner See in Blankenhof

Kleiner See, also known as Blankenhofer See, is located in Blankenhof. It covers 4 hectares and is 2 metres deep, and is associated with the AV Chemnitz angling club. Fish species found in the lake include eel, perch, bream, pike, carp, roach and tench. Its area and depth give the lake a clear sense of scale; its different names help you place it in its local context.

When choosing a hotel, it may help to first decide what matters most to you: would you like to explore the history of Blankenhof and Gevezin, is the manor house the focus of your plans, or are you interested in the area’s natural features?

The Mecklenburg Lake District: more nature and cultural experiences

The wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District also offers its own places to visit and themes to explore. Müritz National Park is part of this region and is characterised by forests, moors, lakes and expansive meadows. Its hiking trail reveals the park’s landscapes and distinctive features over nine stages: the route runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. This describes a multi-stage route through the national park, not a single stage near Blankenhof.

Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours in Müritz National Park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and tours from the water. These activities offer a different focus from exploring Blankenhof’s local history: they turn your attention to the landscape and guided excursions in the national park.

Another distinct destination in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder bison reserve. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin, within the region and the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park; visitors can observe animals there. The reserve also features a forest discovery trail with climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with touch-and-see panels, and a dendrophone. This gives you a choice of different themes for your trip: Blankenhof’s local and estate history on the one hand, and nature destinations elsewhere in the wider travel region on the other.
