Šulekovo brings together a historical trail and local architectural and cultural landmarks. The Šulekovský poznávací okruh (Šulekovo Discovery Trail) presents the history of Beregseg–Šulekovo; buildings, archaeological finds, and local traditions offer further perspectives on the town.

A Trail Through Šulekovo’s History

The Šulekovský poznávací okruh is approximately 2,900 metres long and begins at the Šulek-Holuby Monument. Its four stops introduce visitors to the history of Beregseg–Šulekovo. The route’s length and number of stops give you a clear idea of its scale and historical focus.

The Šulek-Holuby Monument in Šulekovo dates from October 21, 1928. The trail begins at a place with a precisely dated connection to Šulekovo’s history.

Archaeological Traces and Landscape

Graves from a Hallstatt-period cremation cemetery have been found in the cadastral area of Šulekovo. Evidence of a Slavic burial ground and a Slavic settlement dating from the 9th and 10th centuries has also been discovered. The finds relate to different periods and broaden the view of local history beyond the historical trail.

The landscape can also be described geographically: Šulekovo lies on the Váh River’s floodplain deposits in the Danubian Lowland. The town’s history is thus connected with the landscape of the Váh.

Christ the King Church and the Osloboditeľov Road Bridge

Christ the King Church in Šulekovo was built in 1935 to a design by architect Michal Milan Harminc. It is a three-aisled building with a polygonal presbytery termination. Its layout and architectural form add a specific architectural perspective to the historical context.

The church is in good condition and is used for its intended purpose. Check current access arrangements before your visit.

Another landmark is the Osloboditeľov Road Bridge in Šulekovo. It is an immovable cultural monument in the Secession style. The church and road bridge represent different types of construction: a three-aisled church on the one hand, and a road bridge whose monument description highlights the Secession style on the other.

Cultural Traditions in Songs and Stories

Over a period of 50 years, programmes featuring authentic songs and stories documented the lives of the ancestors of Šulekovo, formerly known as Bereseg, and the Hlohovec region. Mrs Mičková created these programmes, with the Folklórna skupina Šulekovo taking part. These cultural traditions encompass both the town’s former name and its connections with the Hlohovec region.

A Cycling Link to the Flood Protection Embankment

A municipal notice dated June 23, 2026, mentions a 90-metre cycling link in Šulekovo. It connects Osloboditeľov and Priemyselná streets with the Váh River flood protection embankment. Check the current condition of the link before setting off.

When choosing a destination, you can weigh the different highlights: the trail brings together the history of Beregseg–Šulekovo at four stops, the buildings offer architectural perspectives, and the cultural traditions extend to the Hlohovec region. If these local connections suit your travel plans, consider Šulekovo as a destination for your hotel stay.
