Kľačany brings together rolling hills, waterways, woodland and several points of cultural and historical interest. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Kľačany, these themes can help you tailor your stay to nature or local history. The village lies in the Trnavská pahorkatina hill region, which extends from Trnava to the Nitra District and is about 290 metres above sea level.

Landscape, Waterways and Nature

The Andač stream is a prominent feature of the landscape. It rises in a small grove between Hlohovec and Kľačany, flows through Kľačany and joins the Radošinka. This makes it possible to follow the stream from its source to its confluence, while its course also connects directly with the village.

Oak and mixed forests can be found in and around Kľačany. The Mladý háj woodland also includes part of the cadastral area of Kľačany and contains oak-hornbeam forests.

The European ground squirrel has been confirmed in the Mladý háj woodland. The area is currently considered the only known site for this species in the district. The lesser snowdrop is one of the rare protected plants in Kľačany. These offer two distinct nature themes: the ground squirrel in Mladý háj and a protected plant in the village.

Buildings and Local History

The Church of St. Martin is a single-nave sacred building with a polygonal-ended presbytery, an attached sacristy and an integrated tower. “Single-nave” means it has one nave; “polygonal” describes the many-sided shape of the end. Together with the position of the sacristy and tower, these terms help make the building’s layout clear. A stone cross dating from 1851 stands in front of the church.

Another historical feature lies in the Štvrte field: the rondel there consists of two circular ditches with four entrances. A difference in the colour of the vegetation is visible above its foundations. The ditches and entrances describe the layout of the site; the difference in vegetation makes it identifiable in the field.

There is also a monument to fallen soldiers in the local cemetery. Together, the church, rondel and monument offer different perspectives on local history: architectural design, an archaeological site and remembrance of the fallen. The name Kľačany was first recorded in 1256 in the form Kelechten; this early version of the name adds a specific date to the village’s history.

Harvest Festival and Getting There

A description from 2015 identifies the harvest festival as an annual tradition observed since 2002. At the 2015 celebration, Mass was followed by an agape with baked cakes and wine. If a harvest festival is important to your travel plans, check the latest dates.

An older municipal report mentions bus and rail services in Kľačany. If you plan to travel by bus or train, check the current connections before setting off.
