Koplotovce: Thermal Waters, History and Nature
Accommodation in Koplotovce
If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Koplotovce, it helps to consider the different sides of the place: thermal waters, Renaissance history, its location on the Váh and nature-related attractions all shape your travel plans. Depending on whether you are interested in architecture, cycling or the landscape, you can focus on different things.
Thermal Waters and Sedavá fontána
One of Koplotovce’s natural features is a thermal spring containing sulphur and gypsum. The Sedavá fontána bathing facility began operating on 1 June 2019. Sedavá fontána uses local thermal water with a stated temperature of 25°C; temperatures and operating conditions may vary. Check seasonal access before visiting. The site also includes a buffet serving refreshments. Availability may change, so check current information if you are interested.
Landscape, Plants and Waterways
Koplotovce lies on the left-bank river terraces of the Váh, which border the southern slopes of the Považský Inovec. Thermophilous oak forests grow in the northern part. The cadastral area is home to protected orchids, summer pheasant’s eye (Adonis aestivalis) and the priority habitat of European interest 6210/Tr1.1. Exact locations and plant numbers may change.
The European bee-eater is also part of the seasonal natural landscape: near Koplotovce, its breeding was observed in a typical sandy escarpment in 2023 and 2024. After the birds left, twenty occupied nesting burrows were counted in the 2024 season. Seasonal presence varies.
The Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing waters near the village comprise four gravel pits with a total water surface area of 2.9 ha. River terraces, the wooded north, protected flora and gravel waters are distinct landscape features that you can take into account when choosing what to focus on during your trip.
Cycle Routes and Connections
The Leopoldov–Červeník–Madunice–Koplotovce–Drahovce cycle route project includes a 0.720 km cycle-path section in the cadastral area of Koplotovce. The project was implemented through February 2023. A bridge over the Váh connects Madunice and Koplotovce between their cadastral areas. In addition, a 5.7 km cycle path along the Váh was extended in the direction of Koplotovce in 2010. When planning your cycling, keep these three connections distinct: the project section is in the cadastral area of Koplotovce, the bridge connects Madunice and Koplotovce across the Váh, and the route extended in 2010 runs along the river in the direction of Koplotovce.
Local History and Architecture
Koplotovce was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zobor Charter. Archaeological finds also point to different periods: in 1989, a Neolithic fragment of a stone core was recovered at the Za gedru site. A Roman coin minted between 378 and 383 was found during gardening work in Koplotovce in 1999.
Kaštieľ Kaplath is an original Renaissance fortress. Fortifications remain on its south side; other characteristic features include a stone portal and two round bastions. The literary history of the village includes the friendship between Eduard and Ambruš Kochanovskí and the poet Ján Hollý.
The Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1734. Its Rococo high altar dates from the late 18th century and features a painting of the Visitation of Mary by F. Werner. Services are held in the branch church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings; check the current times before your visit.
