Historic park and manor houses

A notable starting point for exploring Galanta is the historic park surrounding the Neogotický kaštieľ, a Neo-Gothic manor house. The park is the city’s largest continuous green space and offers visitors opportunities for a short break. Its present-day appearance dates back to a Neo-Gothic renovation in 1861.

The Renesančný kaštieľ offers another way to explore the city’s history and is one of Galanta’s most important historic monuments. Extensive heritage restoration carried out from 1980 to 1992 made the building accessible to the public. The Renaissance manor house contains a local history exhibition about Galanta and its surroundings. This place thus combines the history of the monument with a view of the city and its environs.

Exhibitions: local history, lives and collections

The Vlastivedné múzeum v Galante specializes in documenting mill operations in the Little Danube catchment area and along the lower reaches of the Váh. The Pamätná izba Zoltána Kodálya offers a different perspective: it presents important milestones and achievements in the life of the acclaimed composer.

The Pamätná izba Karola Duchoňa is a permanent exhibition honoring the exceptional musician and pop singer Karol Duchoň. Its contents include his awards, an authentic painting by Barbora Didovová, and extensive photographic documentation. The permanent exhibition Izba starých gramofónov a šelakových platní comes from the collection of Kristián Takács. The selection thus ranges from milling and local history to individual life stories and a collection of gramophones and shellac records.

The exhibitions focus on different themes: the museum concentrates on a specialized subject with a defined thematic and geographic scope, while the memorial rooms put individual personalities at the center. The gramophone exhibition is based on a collection. Visitors who want to discover Galanta through culture can choose from regional history, biographies and collection-based topics.

Swimming, fishing and cycling

Vodný svet GALANDIA has an indoor swimming pool with four stainless-steel pools. Check operating conditions before your visit. Fishing is possible at two lakes at Ranč na Striebornom jazere. During the school year, the ranch also offers programs such as nature stays and day trips; check availability in advance.

Cyclists can also plan a specific route: from Galanta, they can join the Vážska cyklomagistrála towards Kolónia, Váhovce and the Kaskády recreation area. Check route conditions before setting off. The day’s activities can therefore include a range of options, from spending time by the lakes to cycling along the route mentioned above.

Wine and events

Promitor Vinorum offers organized group wine tastings combined with cellar tours. Arrange these in advance. Mikulov baví Galantu is also part of the city’s wine program: the traditional wine-tasting event presents wines from the Mikulov wine-growing subregion.

Since its sixth edition, Galantské trhy has been held under the patronage of the city of Galanta. Vínna ulička is part of the markets every year and takes place on the grounds of the Neogotický kaštieľ in the city park. Stretnutie vo farbách is another traditional summer event held in the city park. It gives creative artists a space to present their work and offers art-loving visitors an artistic experience.
