Discover Trstice: River Landscape and Historic Monuments
Accommodation in Trstice
Trstice lies in the central part of the Danubian Lowland. Waterways define two sides of the village: the Little Danube flows along its western side, while the Čierna Voda runs along its northern and eastern sides. This gives Trstice two distinct connections to its surrounding waters. For a stay, this offers a way to bring landscape and local history together. The sights range from an early 20th-century church to older and more recent monuments.
River Landscape and Rafting
The Čierna Voda wetland is a wetland of national importance associated with Trstice and Dolný Chotár. Together with the two waterways, it provides a landscape reference point for exploring the area. Water sports are also an option: in the vicinity of Trstice, water tourists use the Little Danube for rafting. If you plan to take part, check the current launch points and access rules locally.
Church and Building History
The Roman Catholic church in Trstice was built in 1903–1904, replacing a church dating from 1717. It traces a timeline from the earlier church to the new building. The organ also dates from 1904 and was made by the Riegler Brothers workshop in Budapest. The history of the church building and a specific fitting from the year it was built can therefore be considered side by side. The dates mark different events: 1717 refers to the earlier building, 1903–1904 to the new church, and 1904 to the organ. The church park also contains a chapel of the Virgin Mary, which was dedicated in May 2003. It adds a much more recent religious site to the historical setting.
Monuments and Places of Remembrance
The monuments in Trstice address a range of historical and religious themes. The Heroes’ Monument commemorates the heroes of the 1848 uprising and the soldiers who fell in the First and Second World Wars. A different historical period is reflected in the Holy Trinity monument: it dates from 1825 and was reconstructed in 1925. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is considered the oldest statue in Trstice and dates from the mid-18th century. It offers a different point of reference from the Holy Trinity monument, which was reconstructed later. On the outskirts of the village is also a statue of Saint Vendelin, the patron saint of shepherds. It is made of sandstone and was probably erected in the 19th century.
Cinema and Practical Planning
The statue of Saint Elizabeth was originally erected in 1924 and is currently located in front of the Trstice Health and Social Centre. If you plan to visit this specific location, check that it is still there before your visit. The Malom Mozi cinema is located at the Cultural Centre, 472. As programmes and opening arrangements can change, it is advisable to check the latest information before going to the cinema.
