On the western edge of the Nitrianska pahorkatina, Šalgočka lies in the flat valley of the Jác stream. The municipality of Šalgočka is a deforested loess hill landscape.

Landscape and Natural Features

The protected landscape feature “Šalgočiansky park” covers three hectares. In addition, the land-use plan designates rBK 13 Jarčie as a regional biocorridor formed by a watercourse and its riparian vegetation. This ecological designation is documented in the municipal development programme of 2016. These descriptions highlight different aspects: the park’s protection status and area, and the biocorridor’s watercourse and riparian vegetation. This makes it possible to identify the natural setting through specific names and features, rather than only through a general landscape description.

Cycling Route Through Šalgočka

For cyclists, the 58-kilometre “Okruh Podunajskou pahorkatinou” circular route passes through Šalgočka. Check the route conditions before setting out. This makes it possible to include the route in your travel plans as a regional cycling trip, without confusing the section through the village with the entire route.

Manor House and Park

The manor house in Šalgočka was originally built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. In the first half of the 19th century, it was remodelled in the Classicist style. Its architectural history therefore includes two clearly distinct phases: its Baroque origins and its later Classicist alteration. The dates refer to different events at the same building: its construction at the beginning of the 18th century and its remodelling in the 19th century.

The manor house park in Šalgočka is a national cultural monument of historical value and is subject to a special protection regime. It is privately owned and is not a public green space. Part of the extensive park that surrounded the manor house has survived to this day. On 22 September 2025, the use of the manor house park for organised, regulated cultural and social activities was proposed.

Church and Local History

The “Kostol sv. Terézie Veľkej” church in Šalgočka is a Baroque religious building. It was first built as a chapel in the 17th century; around 1740, a nave was added, expanding the chapel into a church. A nave is the longer main section of a church building. The date around 1740 refers to the extension, while the 17th century marks its origins as a chapel. Unlike the manor house, the emphasis here is not on a change of style, but on the transition from a chapel to an expanded church building.

Viticulture is also part of the village’s history: it was one of the occupations of Šalgočka’s residents. This adds another perspective to the architectural history, offering a glimpse into the local work and life of earlier times.
