Ivachnova brings together the Váh River and the protected Ivachnovský luh with a Roman Catholic church, a Neoclassical wayside chapel and local festivals. If you are looking for a hotel in Ivachnova, these different local features can help you decide what to focus on during your trip. Important for planning: the protected natural area is not open for unrestricted visits.

Floodplain Landscape on the Váh

Ivachnovský luh covers 12 hectares. It is the northernmost floodplain in Slovakia and also the last remnant of a floodplain forest in the high-altitude basins of the Western Carpathians. Up to 90 bird species are found in this area, along with 162 species of higher plants. Ivachnova therefore represents not only a riverside location, but also a distinctive floodplain landscape within the Western Carpathians.

Ivachnovský luh is subject to the fifth level of protection; access is prohibited. Keep this restriction in mind when planning and check local restrictions before your trip. The information about marked routes is also clearly defined: no marked cycle route passes through Ivachnova, and no marked hiking trail starts in the village. Since route networks can change, it is a good idea to check current local information before travelling.

Ivachnova lies on the Váh. A bridge connects the village with Liptovská Teplá on the opposite bank. This riverside connection is a distinct local feature alongside the protected floodplain forest and helps put the surrounding landscape into context.

Church and Wayside Chapel

The Roman Catholic church in Ivachnova is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was solemnly consecrated on 13 November 1993. The church also houses a relic containing a drop of blood from Pope John Paul II. The dedication and the relic therefore represent two different aspects of the local church’s history.

Another historic site is the Kaplnka sv. Jána Nepomuckého, a Neoclassical wayside chapel dating from 1858. It replaced a wooden structure from 1828 and was restored in 1926. The chapel stands in the northern part of Ivachnova, on a road along the banks of the Váh. Its riverside location sets it apart from the church, while the dates trace its building history from the predecessor structure to its restoration.

Local Amenities and Travel Planning

The Kozí vŕšok complex is located on the eastern edge of Ivachnova and includes a restaurant and a shop. Local dairy products are sold there, including cheese made from goat’s, sheep’s and cow’s milk, as well as yoghurts. Check the restaurant, shop and available products before your trip. This makes it possible to consider the specific features of the area—natural surroundings, religious buildings, festival programmes and this local offering—separately according to your interests when choosing a hotel in Ivachnova.
