Bešeňová combines geological features, thermal waters, church architecture and landscape highlights. This means different themes can take centre stage when planning your trip: the travertine cascades, the Vodný park Bešeňová water park, views from the reservoir or the history of the local churches. Your choice depends on which of these aspects of the town you would like to explore further.

Travertine, Cascades and Golden Stone

The Bešeňovské travertíny comprise an abandoned quarry several hundred metres north of Bešeňová, as well as travertine cascades. The area covers 3.18 hectares. Mineral water flows continuously over the cascades, giving the rock formations a natural sheen. The quarry, cascades and gleaming formations together define the geological character of this place.

A well-known chapel stands at the edge of the quarry. The golden Bešeňovský travertine can be seen there. If you plan to visit, check access to the chapel locally before your visit. The golden travertine is a different attraction from the cascades: here, the focus is on the distinctive stone, while there it is on the mineral water flowing continuously over the rocks.

Thermal Waters and Views of Water

The Vodný park Bešeňová water park combines natural geothermal water with modern water attractions. The thermal water comes from a depth of more than 2,000 metres and is rich in calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron. Its origin and mineral composition add a specific geological detail to the attractions. If you associate Bešeňová primarily with water, you can distinguish between the water park’s offerings and the natural water and rock formations of the Travertíny.

The Vodná nádrž Bešeňová reservoir also offers its own perspective on the water. A walk along its banks opens up views of the reservoir. Cyclists and inline skaters use the paved path along the shore.

Landscape and Local History

The Borovica nad Bešeňovou offers a different landscape highlight: a solitary pine tree in meadows above the town, with views of the surrounding countryside. While the reservoir draws the eye to a body of water, here the single tree shapes the view. Both highlights complement the water attractions and travertine formations with different perspectives on the landscape.

The Kostol Najsvätejšej Trojice church is in Bešeňová, near the water park, and stands out for its pyramidal shape. It was built in 2001 on the site of a smaller church dating from 1850. The church’s shape and construction history offer two distinct points of interest: its striking form and its historical connection to the building that preceded it.

The visiting arrangements are different at Kaštieľ Mitošiny. The building is privately owned and not open to the public; it can only be viewed from the adjacent road. As ownership and access arrangements can change, check the current status again before your visit.

A Broader View of the Region

The history of the villages flooded by Liptovská Mara is also among the area’s points of interest. A themed cycling route follows their traces and provides information about the water management project that profoundly changed the development of the entire region. This historical perspective differs from the individual local highlights: the focus is not on a church, a quarry or a viewpoint, but on the impact of the water management project on the region.

To make your choice, you can compare the themes described here: travertine and the chapel represent the geological highlights, while the water park offers geothermal water and water attractions. Views shape the landscape at the reservoir and by Borovica nad Bešeňovou; the church and Kaštieľ tell different stories about architectural form, history and access. This makes it easy to get a sense of Bešeňová through the specific themes that are most interesting for your trip.
