Hubová: Culture, Educational Trail and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Hubová
Hubová lies in the Veľká Fatra Mountains. There are several ways to shape your stay: an educational trail covering natural science, history and culture; marked cycling routes; historic buildings; and scenic landmarks. If you are looking for hotels in Hubová, you can first consider whether you would like to focus your trip more on cultural history, a particular route or the landscape.
Educational Trail and Cycling Routes
The Hubovský okruh is an 11 km educational trail in the cadastral area of the municipality of Hubová. It was established in 2017 by the Turistický oddiel Tramp Hubová tourist club. Its interpretive content covers natural science, historical and cultural topics. Its length and thematic focus describe two different aspects of the same trail: you can take the Hubovský okruh into account in your travel plans both for its distance and for its content.
The cadastral area also has three marked cycling routes with a total length of 15 km. The Černová–Bystrá dolina cycling route is 5.8 km long. This provides different distances to help with planning: the combined length of the three cycling routes and the length of the named route. The 11 km Hubovský okruh is an educational trail, a different category of route. So when choosing an activity, first decide whether you would like to focus on an educational trail or a cycling route; you can then take the respective distances into account.
Granaries, Church and Craftsmanship
On the western edge of Hubová, the Sýpky granaries stand on a slope below a wooded hill, beside the main road. Both the Hubovský okruh and a yellow-marked hiking trail pass the granary complex. The two vernacular grain granaries date from the late 19th century. They are two-room log buildings on stone foundations. Their gabled roofs are shingled and feature a tall podlomenica. For visitors interested in traditional construction, the buildings offer specific features to observe: the log construction, foundations, roof shape and roofing. The term grain granary also describes the buildings’ function.
Another cultural monument in Hubová is the church “Kostol Povýšenia Svätého Kríža.” It is decorated with murals by Jozef Hanula dating from 1905. Unlike the Sýpky, the focus here is on church decoration rather than granary architecture. Both offer different perspectives on local architectural and art history.
Ruins of an ironworks in the Bystrá dolina in Hubová point to the blacksmithing tradition in this small valley. This connection complements the topics of granary construction and mural painting with the history of craftsmanship. Visitors interested in the cultural side of the area can thus find not only buildings but also a connection to the former working of iron.
Scenic Landmarks
From the “Kríž na cintoríne” cemetery cross, there are views of Veľký Smrekovec, Ostré, Havran, Kopa, Kečka, Kútnikov kopec, Hubová and Švošov. The view takes in named landmarks as well as Hubová and Švošov, offering a different focus from the buildings and their history.
The “Zastavenie v Sedle Poľana” stop is located on mountain meadows above Hubová, by the “Sedlo Poľana” hiking signpost. Together with the viewpoint at the cemetery cross, it offers a helpful distinction: the cross is primarily a place to enjoy the view, while the stop is identified by its location on the mountain meadows beside the hiking signpost. These landmarks show different sides of the landscape around Hubová.
