Lúčky: Waterfall, Healing Springs and Travertine
Accommodation in Lúčky
Lúčky brings together nature watching, spa facilities and local history. The Lúčanský vodopád, the travertine formations and the educational trail to Veľký Choč offer different highlights for your stay; there are also pools at AQUA-VITAL Park and activities offered by the tourist information centre. Which aspects you focus on depends on whether you mainly want to experience water and scenery, go hiking or discover local culture.
Waterfall and Travertine Formations
Lúčanský vodopád is 13 metres high. The water cascades from the edge of a travertine terrace into a pond. The waterfall is in Lúčky and has been protected as a national natural monument since 1974. Warm springs from the spa resort flow into it and prevent it from freezing; it can therefore be admired year-round. Water conditions may change seasonally.
The Lúčanské travertíny include the plateau-like rise of Skálie and the rock faces of Zápoly and Skaličky. The travertine formations have been protected as a natural monument since 1975. There are also six mineral springs north of Lúčky. The waterfall, rock formations and springs each give the natural side of the village its own distinct character.
Spa Facilities and History
According to information retrieved from the operator in August 2026, AQUA-VITAL Park is open year-round. The facilities listed include a heated outdoor recreational pool with a water temperature of 28–32 °C and an outdoor seated pool with healing mineral water at 36–38 °C. The pool types and temperatures therefore differ considerably. Check the current access conditions before your visit, as facilities and access may change.
The development of the spa resort is also part of the village’s history: after the springs were revived around 1760, Kúpele Lúčky developed more fully as a place for treatment, recreation and entertainment at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Today’s visitor attractions thus bring together nature watching and spa history, and you do not need to know the historical background to explore the various points of interest separately.
The Educational Trail to Veľký Choč
The educational trail “Choč pre nás a my pre neho” starts in Lúčky and passes Lúčanský vodopád and the spa area. It then runs through the valley and forest to the summit of Veľký Choč, crossing the Choč National Nature Reserve along the way. From the top, there are panoramic views in every direction; how far you can see depends on the weather. As the route may change, check the current trail conditions before setting out. The information available does not specify a walking time or difficulty level.
Church, Rafting and Village Life
The Roman Catholic Church of Povýšenia sv. Kríža was built from 1820 to 1824 and consecrated in 1825. Two paintings by Jozef Hanula are preserved in the church. Among the works with which Alojz Fellegi painted the church in the 1930s are depictions of the Stations of the Cross. A visit to the church can therefore also offer a glimpse into the village’s art history.
In the past, Lúčky was best known for rafting. The figure of the raftsman shaped artistic work, life stories and the style of many residents. In two traditionally furnished rooms, Pamätný domček Lúčky shows how people’s ancestors once lived. Access is available on request during the tourist information centre’s opening hours. If you would like to visit the house, check access with the centre in advance; specific opening hours are not provided here.
Guided Tours and Other Activities
The Lúčky tourist information centre offers guided tours of the village in traditional Lúčky dress, accompanied by Lúčky songs. Children and adults can enjoy hands-on bee excursions at an apiary in Lúčky. The centre also offers talks about sourdough baking with tastings. These activities offer different ways to discover village life and local activities, rather than focusing your stay solely on scenery and spa facilities.
The tourist information centre also provides information about trips and attractions in Lúčky, as well as nearby caves, water parks and cycling routes. A marked cycling route passes the DEO Chapel. If you would like to include more activities in your travel plans, you can ask there about suitable destinations and cycling routes.
