Liptovská Štiavnica: Manor House, Churches and Views
Accommodation in Liptovská Štiavnica
Liptovská Štiavnica lies in the valley of the Štiavničanka stream. The village offers a range of attractions, from a manor house with several building phases to churches and chapels, as well as opportunities for walks and cycling. Lúčny Hríb hill and the Nižňanský medokýš mineral spring also add their own distinctive touches. You can plan your visit around your interests in architecture and history, outdoor activities or views.
Manor House and Building History
The newer manor house was built sometime in the 17th century in the late Renaissance style as a fortified, two-towered block castle. It was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1750 and extended with two towers in 1880; today it has four round corner towers. Its building history can therefore be divided into three stages: the original two-towered form, the Baroque remodelling and the later extension. The building's current form is evident in its four round corner towers. If you are interested in architecture, you can compare the different building phases and how the structure changed over time. The manor house is privately owned, is not open to the public and can only be viewed from the outside. As private access conditions may change, check them before your visit.
Churches and Chapels
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is considered a landmark of the village for its modern architecture. Construction began in 1995, and the church was consecrated in December 1999. A wooden bell tower dating from 1933 stands right next to it. The dates show that the tower was built well before work on the church began.
The two chapels can also be distinguished by their locations and architectural styles. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is on the main road, about 200 metres below the church. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands at the crossroads between Liptovská Štiavnica and Ludrová. The small structure dates from the early 20th century and combines Neo-Romanesque and Neoclassical elements. Visitors interested in sacred architecture will find, alongside the modern church, two chapels with their own distinctive features.
Walks, Cycling Route and Lúčny Hríb
The Komornícka Valley opens into Liptovská Štiavnica and offers the opportunity for an easy walk along a paved or surfaced road. A blue-marked cycling route also passes through the village. This gives you a choice of different ways to get around: an expressly easy walk in the valley or a cycling route that crosses the village.
At Lúčny Hríb, views meet the area's earlier settlement history. The hill was an important fortified settlement in the Early Iron Age and during the Great Moravian period. The short, easy climb offers views of the surrounding area. Unlike a walk in the Komornícka Valley, climbing Lúčny Hríb also connects the outing with the hill's historical significance.
Mineral Spring and Views
The Nižňanský medokýš mineral spring is located in the protected zone of the Low Tatras National Park. From a rest area by the spring, you can see the Western Tatras, the Choč Mountains and part of the Little Fatra. Signposts lead there from the village centre, first along an asphalt road and then on a footpath. The spring is about 100 metres from Chalúpkovo. While Lúčny Hríb is associated with a short climb and settlement history, the spring combines a signposted route with views of several mountain ranges.
