The Ľubochnianska Valley is the longest valley in the Veľká Fatra mountain range. In Ľubochňa, you can explore hiking and cycling trails, the nature trail, and traces of the town’s spa and engineering history as different focuses for your trip.

Hiking and cycling trails in the Ľubochnianska Valley

The Ľubochňa–Dolina nature trail starts at the municipal office. This self-guided circular route is intended for hiking and cycling and can be used in summer and winter. Ten stops and an introductory information board provide guidance along the way. A green-marked cycling route leads from Ľubochňa through the Ľubochnianska Valley; a route through the valley leads into Veľká Fatra National Park. Trail and access conditions may change. Before setting out, also check the current visitor regulations for the national park.

Other marked trails have different starting points and destinations: A yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the railway station and leads over Mount Havran towards Ostré. A green-marked hiking trail also runs from the station to the Prameň Mária spring. The surrounding area, with its pond, forms a rest area. A red-marked trail leads from the centre of Ľubochňa past the Korbeľka Nature Reserve to Mount Kopa, which offers views of the Váh Valley.

Spa park and engineering history

The Ľubochňa Forest Railway was built in 1903–1904 as a narrow-gauge railway to transport timber out of the valley. It occasionally carried tourists and spa guests as well; today it is no longer in operation. It was the first electrified railway in Central Europe. The railway’s history also connects Ľubochňa with early railway engineering.

The hydroelectric power plant was built in 1904 on the site of an ironworks. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. Information panels in the rooms describe the history of this technical monument; arrange your visit in advance.

Kúpeľný Park is a landscaped park with Art Nouveau elements. Winding paths lead to small architectural features, scenic spots, a pavilion, resting places and a fountain. The park also includes an original lime-tree avenue dating from the late 19th century. Another architectural trace of the town’s spa history is Kollárov dom, a historic building in the spa style whose distinctive wooden balconies define its appearance.

The church also has a long construction history: Prelate Andrej Hlinka consecrated the cornerstone in 1937; the church was blessed on 29 June 1938. It was renovated in its present form during the tenure of the priest Ondrej Poľančík. Mons. František Tondra consecrated it on 3 July 1998.
