Planning a trip to Liptovská Teplá can focus on historic buildings or activities on the Váh. Early Gothic and Neoclassical architecture, along with manor houses from different centuries, give the town a range of historical features. For time outdoors, there are also paddling, cycling routes and walks. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between marked cycling routes and the conditions on unmarked walking paths.

Churches and manor houses

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Philip and St. James is a single-nave early Gothic building dating from around 1280. Its features include a rectangular presbytery end and a projecting tower. Inside are wall paintings by Jozef Hanula dating from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The church thus brings together medieval architectural history and a much later painted interior.

The manor house in Liptovská Teplá is a two-storey, block-shaped building with five bays and a mansard roof, dating from the second half of the 17th century. A Baroque annex and alterations to the upper-floor interiors date from the second half of the 18th century. A decorative Rococo stove made of white majolica has been preserved in one room. The architectural details distinguish the original structure from later additions and the surviving interior furnishings.

Another manor house is the Neoclassical Madočany Manor House in Liptovská Teplá, dating from 1830. It had a park and outbuildings, built between 1830 and 1832. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is also Neoclassical; it stands beside a road next to the Váh. The Dvornikovič family manor house is not open to the public and can only be viewed from the adjacent road. Bear this restriction in mind if you include it in your sightseeing plans.

The Váh, cycling routes and walks

The relevant stretch of the Váh is navigable year-round, including in open boats, and is rated as a tourist-level route. A description published in 2023 also recounts one planned trip: before the Liptovská Teplá station, boats were inflated on the banks of the Váh; the plan was to travel about 31 kilometres down the Váh back to Kraľovany. This plan is a single example, not a general statement that a tour is available.

You can book SUP boards from a provider at Liptovská Teplá 51 and collect them there, or have them delivered on request. Red-marked cycling routes pass through the town; check the local signs, as route information can change. No marked hiking trail starts from Liptovská Teplá. However, walks are possible in the meadows northeast of the town, in the direction of Dvoriská Hill. Access there is unmarked and may vary depending on land use and conditions. Check the situation locally before planning this walk.

Walk to the Madočany Swing

The Madočany Swing is attached to a solitary pine tree in a meadow near Madočany in Liptovská Teplá. From there, views extend to the Low Tatras, parts of the Choč Mountains and the Western Tatras. Allow about half an hour for the walk from Madočany to the swing. It is an informal, locally maintained attraction, but it is not officially maintained; confirm its condition before visiting. This allows you to plan the detour with a specific time estimate while keeping in mind the swing’s informal nature.
