Liptovske Sliace: Teplica Spring, Travertine and Folklore
Accommodation in Liptovske Sliace
Teplica Spring and Travertine
The Teplica Spring and the Sliačske travertíny nature reserve give Liptovske Sliace a strong connection to nature. The spring, also called Čertovica, has a constant temperature of 16 °C. The stream that flows from it does not freeze over in winter. The temperature and the stream’s winter condition are directly connected: the spring’s 16 °C temperature is illustrated by the unusual property of its outflowing water.
The Teplica Spring is a mofette spring from which gases escape. The spring’s travertine hill is another feature, its shape resembling a volcano with a crater. The water, gas emissions and travertine formation are distinct features of the same natural attraction. Those interested in geological features will find more than just a spring here: the hill’s distinctive shape is also part of the place’s character.
Nature Reserve and Trails
The Sliačske travertíny nature reserve includes a small marsh with distinctive flora and fauna. It adds another natural feature to the spring and travertine hill. The reserve can be reached from Vyšný Sliač via a narrow asphalt road. As road conditions can change, it is best to check them before your visit.
A blue-marked hiking route leads from the “Lipt.Sliače,Vyšný Sliač,garáž” bus stop to the nature reserve and the Teplica Spring. Check the route and local conditions before setting out, especially if you are planning your visit around a particular route.
Hiking and Mountain Biking
In addition to the trail to the nature area, there is the 68 km blue-marked Vlkolínec–Pribylina MTB route. It follows field tracks through Liptovske Sliace towards Partizánska Ľupča. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between the different route profiles: the hiking route leads to the spring and the nature reserve, while the MTB route is a longer cycling route with its own course. This lets you consider hiking and cycling as separate activities for your stay without confusing their destinations or route details.
Folklore, Events and Architecture
Local culture offers another way to experience Liptovske Sliace. The Sliačanka folklore ensemble and the Sliačanček children’s group preserve local folk traditions, songs and dances, and perform at folklore festivals in Slovakia and abroad. Their festival appearances may vary from year to year. The Liptovské dni matky folklore festival was held for the 15th time on 1 and 2 August 2026 at the Pažite amphitheatre in Liptovske Sliace. The Beh okolo Sliačov cross-country race was held there in 2026 for the 51st time. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the dates for your chosen travel year.
The town’s culture also includes the medieval architecture of a church in Liptovske Sliace. It preserves several original medieval details, including windows, a vault, portals and grilles. Alongside the folk traditions, these architectural features offer further cultural points of interest during a stay.
