Klokočov offers several different points of interest to help you plan your trip: protected nature featuring a distinctive sandstone wall, a route to Na Biely Kríž, a cycling route and sacred buildings. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first consider whether nature, a sporting route or cultural destinations should be the focus of your trip. The route information varies in terms of length, ascent, time required and season.

Sandstone and protected habitats

The Klokočovské skálie Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Klokočov and is subject to the fifth level of protection. Its striking geological features include a sandstone wall between 2 and 20 metres high and about 300 metres long. The sandstone displays spherical weathering. This nature area is therefore notable both for its rock formation and its distinctive geological characteristics.

The protected area also includes fir and fir-spruce forests, as well as spring areas in the foothills on non-calcareous rocks. Forests, springs and the geological substrate are all part of the natural landscape described here. The Klokočovské rašeliniská also give the landscape further conservation significance: they are listed in Slovakia’s national list of sites of European importance. There are twelve such sites in Klokočov.

Routes for different kinds of trips

The Na Biely Kríž z Klokočova route starts in the Vrchpredmier district. It is 3.6 kilometres long, with an ascent of 299 metres, and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The route runs along the Czech-Slovak border area. In winter, a groomed cross-country ski trail is available there. Check route conditions before setting out, especially if you plan to use the winter trail.

The Z Klokočova do Čadce cycling route is suitable for mountain bikes. It is 18 kilometres long, with an ascent of 300 metres. Compared with the Na Biely Kríž route, the cycling route is considerably longer, while the stated ascents of 300 and 299 metres are almost identical. This allows you to compare the two options using specific route figures without treating their different activities as equivalent.

Sacred architecture and building history

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Klokočov is a Secession building with Neo-Gothic elements. It was built between 1918 and 1928. Its interior furnishings include a Baroque crucifix from the 18th century, dating from 1928. The construction period and the crucifix therefore refer to different historical periods: the furnishing is considerably older than the church.

Above the Pantokovci settlement is a small sacred site dating from 1937. It can be reached about one kilometre from the main road. Together with the church, it offers another cultural point of interest for your trip planning, alongside the nature areas and routes.
