Discover Čadca: Nature, Views and Culture
Accommodation in Čadca
You can explore Čadca according to your travel interests, whether through natural features, outdoor activities or cultural history. Specific points of interest include the stone spheres of Megoňky, a lookout tower, hiking and cross-country skiing trails, exhibitions and historic memorial sites. These varied themes can help you plan your stay around your own interests.
Natural Features and Trails
In the locality of Megoňky, in the Milošová district, there are sandstone spheres up to three metres in diameter. They were discovered in 1988 during quarrying at Padyšák quarry. Megoňky, known for its rock or stone spheres, is designated a natural monument and considered a natural feature of European significance. Check local access arrangements before visiting.
You can take city bus No. 4 from Čadca to its terminus in Milošová; from there, it is about 300 metres on foot to the quarry. Check public transport information before setting off so you can plan your journey accordingly.
A weakly mineralised sulphur spring is about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. This is separate from the marked hiking trail to sulphur-containing mineral springs in the valley of the Rieka stream. Check the condition of this trail locally before planning your hike.
Views and Cross-Country Skiing
Rozhľadňa Briava has been open to the public since 8 October 2025. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of Čadca, the Javorníky, Kysuce and the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. As access status should be checked again before travelling, it is advisable to consult the latest visitor information.
For winter, the Beskydsko-Javornícka cross-country skiing trail is another point of interest: its main section runs from Makov Bumbálka on the Czech border through the Vysoké Javorníky to the Čadca–Husárik locality and is about 54 kilometres long. Infrastructure and conditions may vary seasonally, so check the current trail conditions before planning your trip.
Culture and History
The Baroque Church of Saint Bartholomew stands in the centre of Čadca. Built in 1734 on the site of an older wooden church, it is a national cultural monument. The building thus reflects both the former church site and the town’s Baroque architectural history.
The Kysucké múzeum exhibition in Čadca includes the Horelický treasure, a selection of 250 silver coins. It also features multimedia devices, smart technologies and innovative elements, including one of its most modern attractions, an interactive multimedia table. The technical facilities may change over time. If these features are important to your visit, check the latest information in advance.
A monument on Námestie slobody marks the site of the former parish house. In early December 1848, representatives of the Slovak National Council and military leaders of the uprising were based there during the so-called Winter Campaign of the Slovak volunteers. Another memorial plaque is located on a school building on A. Hlinku Street. It commemorates a writer’s work in the Kysuce region from 1924 to 1927.
The Jánsky Festival of Traditions is another cultural highlight: in 2026, the Čadčiansky kotlík was held there for the 13th time, as a goulash-cooking competition. The festival also included a craft market, creative workshops and demonstrations of traditional crafts. If you would like to plan your trip around a future festival, check the dates and programme for each event.
