Krásno nad Kysucou brings together cycling routes, historic sites, settlement landscapes and cultural attractions. For planning your trip, the routes and sights offer a range of options: you can explore by bicycle, take a look at the hiking trails or discover the art and history of Kysuce.

Cycling and Hiking Trails

The Bystrická cycling route starts in the centre of Krásno nad Kysucou. There are stopping points along the route for a refreshment break or a sightseeing stop. The Kysucká cycling route leads towards Dunajov and Oščadnica and continues to Milówka in Poland. At the junction of the two cycling routes stands the Kolesá radosti sculpture. It is almost five metres tall and was made from forge scale, wheels and other materials from a recycling centre.

You will also encounter military history along the routes: concrete Tobruk-type bunkers, also known as Ringstand 58c, were built by the German army in late 1944 to defend the road through the Bystrica valley. The bunkers are located on the cycling route along the Bystrica River and on the Kysucká cycling route towards Oščadnica.

If you prefer to get around on foot, the Krásňanské osady offer a different perspective on the landscape. On a hike, the local flora and fauna, along with peace and solitude, accompany you along the way; the settlements are also accessible to mountain bikers. In U Jantov, wooden and brick houses stand alongside preserved wooden farm buildings. Other features of the settlement include a holy image, a small altar and a stone cross. From there, a forest path passes beneath Vojtov vrch and leads to hiking trails in the Javorníky.

A Way of the Cross about 600 metres long leads directly to the U Jantov observation tower. The tower’s first floor houses a gallery with information about Krásno nad Kysucou. This lets you combine a visit to the viewpoint with a look at the town’s history.

Art, Architecture and History

The Kalvária consists of a Way of the Cross with 14 stations and striking metal sculptures by sculptor and architect Stanislav Mikovčák. The wrought-iron sculptures incorporate historic metal objects. QR codes explain the symbolic depictions, which range from the judgement of Jesus Christ to his burial. The Church of St. Andrew was built in 1861 and is considered the longest church in Kysuce. The church displays a late Gothic wooden sculpture from the late 15th century: it is 113 centimetres tall, was created by an unknown master and was restored in 2009–2010. Classified as a cultural monument, it connects the church furnishings with the region’s art history.

At the Vlastivedné Museum in Krásno nad Kysucou, a natural science exhibition presents the flora and fauna of northwestern Slovakia. The Kysucká Odyssey exhibition takes visitors through the history of Kysuce—from the earliest mammoth hunters, through the era of Juraj Turzo, to the age of space travel—and includes an interactive audiovisual guide. A systematic geological collection also offers an overview of the world of minerals.

Settlements and Local Traditions

In Šustkov–Jedličník, beside the cycling route towards Bystrická dolina, stands a small brick chapel dating from 1998. A holy mass is traditionally held in the settlement in summer. This seasonal tradition adds a religious aspect to the view of settlement architecture, without requiring the mass to be tied to a specific location in the settlement.

Another local custom can be seen at the Most lásky a priateľstva: couples in love attach padlocks to the bridge railing and throw the keys into the river. Between this gesture, the historic buildings and the paths through the settlements, you can see the many different ways to enjoy a stay in Krásno nad Kysucou. When choosing your excursions, you can focus on cycling routes and landmarks, hiking, or art and history.
