Klubina lies in the valley of the Bystrica River, at the transition between the Kysucké vrchy and the Slovenské Beskydy. The mountain landscape and river valley give the location two clear geographical reference points. For travel planning, Klubina can be explored through its landscape, religious sites and historical traces.

Landscape between valley and mountains

The highest point in Klubina’s cadastral area is Veľká Rača in the Klubinská dolina, at 1,236 m. These details refer to different scales: the transition describes Klubina’s location between the mountain regions, while the elevation identifies a point within its cadastral area. The waterways can also be identified precisely: the Klubinský potok joins the Bystrica from the right at Klubina.

The Klubinský potok Nature Reserve is also located in Klubina’s cadastral area. Visitors interested in nature and landscape can consider the reserve and the waterways as distinct features of the local geography. Thus, alongside its location between two mountain regions, a river confluence and a named nature reserve also reflect the area’s landscape.

Chapels and religious heritage

The Stations of the Cross in Klubina run along the access road from the wooden bell tower to the Chapel of Divine Mercy. In the lower part of Klubina, a wayside cross with relief sculptures of Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary and Saint Francis was erected in 1911.

The Chapel of Panny Márie – Povýšky (Povišky) has its own timeline: the statue of the Virgin Mary there dates from 1869; residents of Klubina rebuilt the chapel in 1961, and it was renovated in 1990. A dated work of art and subsequent building work are thus distinct historical details.

Every year, around the Feast of Our Lady, Queen, on 22 August, worshippers from Klubina and the surrounding villages gather at the Chapel of Panny Márie – Povýšky (Povišky). If this event is important to your trip, check the specific dates locally.

Traces of work from the past

Towards the end of the 19th century, a multipurpose building with a watermill and sawmill was constructed in Klubina. The basement of the former building housed drive mechanisms, a sawmill, a mill room, shingle production and a grain-sifting facility. Its functions therefore ranged from sawing and grain processing to shingle production, showing how several types of work came together in one building.

The former building is currently on display at the Múzeum kysuckej dediny in Vychylovka, outside Klubina. The building comes from Klubina, but its current exhibition location is Vychylovka. This makes it possible to distinguish clearly between its historical use in the village and its present-day exhibition location.

Cycling and leisure

A pavilion has been built in the Amphitheatre na Kamencoch. It is part of the cultural and recreational complex “Výstavba amfiteátra na Kamencoch v Klubine” and is located near the Bystrická cyklomagistrála.

Another cycling route is described by a specific section: a relatively easy part of the Kysucká Cyklomagistrála runs from Nová Bystrica to Klubina. The two details answer different orientation questions: the Bystrická cyklomagistrála indicates the pavilion’s location, while the Kysucká Cyklomagistrála identifies a section with a named start and end point. If you choose Klubina as your destination, its landscape, religious history, industrial history and cycling can each provide a distinct focus for your visit.
