The places to visit in the Municipality of Dobrinj range from churches and historical collections to coastal villages, maritime crafts and Biserujka Cave. If you are looking for a hotel as a base, you can first sort the place names by the focus of your trip: Dobrinj for churches and collections, Klimno for sacred art and boat workshops, Šilo for Pećine Beach and Rudine for Biserujka. This way, your choice starts with the experiences that interest you most.

Churches, Art and Local History

During the summer months, you can visit the Ethnographic Collection in Dobrinj; outside this period, you must register in advance by phone with the Municipality of Dobrinj. Check the seasonal visiting conditions ahead of time. The collection is therefore a visitor attraction with a specific time-related condition that you should take into account when planning.

The Parish Church of St Stephen is one of the oldest parish churches; it is already mentioned in a Glagolitic document from the year 1100. It includes a collection of sacred art with liturgical objects, paintings and sculptures dating from the 14th to the 19th century. The early documentary mention and the collection’s time span provide two distinct historical points of reference for the church and its sacred objects.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in the centre of Dobrinj is used as an exhibition space for pieces from the Dobrinj area. It is also home to the Maskeron, an impressive sculpture of a man’s head from 1738, probably created by a local folk artist. The church thus brings together an exhibition and a specifically named work, with a cautious attribution of its authorship.

In Klimno, the Church of St Clement houses a protected wooden Renaissance polyptych. It depicts the Madonna, the Child and saints. Its material, period and subject make the artwork easy to identify. Klimno also has a boat mooring, and boats are built and repaired in workshops. Sacred art and maritime crafts are distinct themes side by side here.

The villages of Soline and Gabonjin also have their own historical highlights. Above Soline, the medieval Church of St Philip and St James stands on a small, secluded hill. St Peter’s Bay in Soline is already mentioned in Glagolitic documents from 1379 and 1465. In Gabonjin, the Church of St Peter on the hill is considered the most representative sacred building in the surrounding area.

Beaches, Nature and the Cave

Šilo is a tourist centre in the Dobrinj area. Pećine Beach in Šilo is suitable for children and has been awarded the Blue Flag. As flag status should be checked seasonally, check it again before your trip.

In Rudine, Biserujka Cave invites visitors to explore. Meline Beach is known for its healing mud, which is attributed with a positive effect in relieving various forms of bone pain. Soline Bay is considered the only place on Krk with medicinal herbs.

A Regional Perspective on Kvarner Bay

In the wider destination of Kvarner Bay, a regional perspective broadens the local cultural and nature themes. The Putovima Frankopana cultural route includes a total of 17 Frankopan castles and three sacred sites in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. At the level of the same county, the Natura 2000 network includes 111 areas, covering almost 75 percent of the land area and 16 percent of the sea area. These figures offer an additional perspective on culture and nature in the wider region.

For your trip planning, you can first choose between specific interests: churches and collections in Dobrinj, sacred art and boat workshops in Klimno, the beach in Ĺ ilo or cave exploration in Rudine. The right hotel base depends on which of these interests is most important during your stay.
