Maritime History and Beach in Silo

In the wider destination of Općina Dobrinj, Silo is a tourist centre for the area. The town is regarded as a historic fishing and seafaring town. The town’s history includes the first ferry on the Croatian Adriatic coast: it operated between Silo and Crikvenica. Diving offers another maritime perspective. Diving clubs take divers to the underwater site of the sunken Greek ship Peltastis near Silo. Whether a trip can go ahead depends on the local diving clubs and conditions. Contact a provider directly before making plans.

Pećine is a sandy beach considered suitable for children. In the wider destination of Općina Dobrinj, Pećine also holds a Blue Flag; check its status seasonally. This gives visitors different reasons to choose the area: Pećine for the beach, the ferry as part of the town’s history, and the wreck as a destination for divers. For specific diving plans, local arrangements and conditions are decisive.

Culture and Nature in the Wider Destination of Općina Dobrinj

The Ethnographic Collection in Dobrinj can be visited during the summer months; at other times, you must call the Municipality of Dobrinj in advance to arrange a visit. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Dobrinj serves as an exhibition space for exhibits from the Dobrinj area. It is also home to the Maskeron: an impressive sculpture of a man’s head, probably created in 1738 by a local folk artist.

A comparison of sacred art reveals two distinct forms. The parish church of St Stephen in Dobrinj is one of the oldest parish churches and is mentioned in a Glagolitic document from 1100. Its collection of sacred art includes liturgical objects, paintings, and sculptures from the 14th to the 19th century. In Klimno, by contrast, the Church of St Clement contains a protected wooden Renaissance polyptych depicting the Madonna, the Child, and the saints.

Soline also offers historical points of interest: St Peter’s Bay is mentioned in Glagolitic documents dating from 1379 and 1465. Above Soline, the medieval Church of St Philip and St James stands on a secluded small hill. Klimno also has a boat anchorage and boatbuilding and repair workshops.

Other nature and visitor attractions in Općina Dobrinj include Biserujka Cave in Rudine, presented as a place to explore, and Meline Beach. The beach is known for its healing mud, which is believed to provide relief from various forms of bone pain. Soline Bay is considered the only place on Krk with medicinal herbs. In Gabonjin, the Church of St Peter on the hill is considered the area’s most representative sacred building.
