Rudine ā Biserujka Cave, Hiking Trails and Village History
Accommodation in Rudine
Rudine Between the Cave and Hiking Trails
Rudine can be explored through several specific themes: Biserujka Cave, hiking trails and well-preserved village architecture. The routes vary considerably in length and course, which is useful when planning your trip. Alongside an easy educational trail of about half an hour, there are hiking routes of 17 and 21.4 kilometres. These differences help you distinguish short walks from longer hikes.
Biserujka Cave lies next to Rudine, above Slivanjska Bay. It is a 110-metre-long karst formation, rich in stalactites and stalagmites, and is set up for tourist visits. Its history as a tourist destination dates back to the 19th century. This site thus combines a striking karst formation with a long history of visitors.
An easy educational trail connects the cave with Slivanjska Bay. The walk takes about 30 minutes, and five information boards line the route. This short outing is quite different from the longer hikes also associated with Rudine.
Hiking Trails of Varying Lengths
The Biserujka Trail is a 17-kilometre hiking route from OmiÅ”alj via Rudine and back to OmiÅ”alj. The route passes through low vegetation and along dry-stone walls. The Camino Krk pilgrimage route also passes through Rudine in the Municipality of Dobrinj. The fourth day of the Camino Krk is listed as a 21.4-kilometre section from OmiÅ”alj to ÄižiÄi. This distance applies to that dayās section, not to the Biserujka Trail.
Another route description gives the route OmiÅ”aljāMirineāRudineāOmiÅ”alj, which passes by Biserujka Cave. Before your trip, check the route conditions for the longer hikes. The short educational trail, the Biserujka Trail and the Camino Krk section have different time and distance details, so they cannot be combined into a single tour.
Village History and Slivanjska Bay
Rudine has well-preserved village architecture associated with the former lives of farmers and fishermen. The remains of Rudineās historic harbour can also be found at Slivanjska Bay. The beach at the bay is accessible on foot or by bicycle. The village architecture, harbour remains and beach are different points of interest if, beyond the cave, you are also interested in history and the coast.
Culture in the Wider Destination of the Municipality of Dobrinj
Beyond Rudine, the wider destination of the Municipality of Dobrinj has cultural attractions of its own. The Ethnographic Collection in Dobrinj can be visited during the summer months. Outside these months, you must call the Municipality of Dobrinj in advance to arrange a visit. Bear this seasonal visiting schedule in mind if you plan to include the collection in your itinerary.
The Parish Church of St Stephen in Dobrinj is one of the oldest parish churches and is mentioned in a Glagolitic document from the year 1100. Its sacred collection includes liturgical objects, paintings and sculptures from the 14th to the 19th century. This collection adds objects from several centuries to the picture of the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Dobrinj.
