Zupanje: Hiking and Cycling
Accommodation in Zupanje
Zupanje lies on two different routes: the “Putevima Dobrinjštine” circular route includes the village, and MTB Route 472 passes through Zupanje on the final ride back to Klimno. The two routes offer different perspectives on the surrounding area: a loop connecting several settlements, and a cycling route with varying trail surfaces. The landscape and rural heritage add to this picture.
Hiking the Putevima Dobrinjštine Circular Route
The 14.7-kilometre loop has 320 metres of elevation gain and connects Šilo, Žestilac, Gostinjac, Sv. Vid Dobrinjski, Dobrinj, Gornja Hlapa and Zupanje. This gives you a clear idea of its scope: the route passes through several settlements and is not limited to a single village. The trail that includes Zupanje runs through the gently rolling, green rural landscape in the northeast of Krk.
If you are considering this loop for your stay, you can factor its distance and elevation gain into your route planning. Check the route information before setting out: details may change following updates by the route’s managing body.
Cycling on MTB Route 472
MTB Route 472 offers a different experience. It passes through Zupanje on the final ride back to Klimno. The surface alternates between old gravel roads and off-road trails, becoming singletrack in some places. This information makes the trail surface a specific factor to consider when planning your route, without making a general statement about its difficulty.
Some sections are also marked as Camino Krk, the pilgrimage route around the island. On the section near Zupanje, the route offers views of the karst peaks in the Vinodol Valley. This stretch therefore combines a described trail surface, pilgrimage-route markings along parts of the route, and a named landscape view.
Rural Heritage and a Set Date
A gumno along the route is a circular, level platform enclosed by a low stone wall. It was once used for threshing grain. Its shape and former use go hand in hand: the level surface is the defining feature of this historic working place.
A celebration in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes is held on 10 May. This specific date adds a cultural connection to Zupanje’s landscape and rural themes.
