Posina brings together several named hiking routes, history at Pasubio, the Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia and its own culinary tradition. The valley’s landscape also offers specific points of interest for a range of interests. If you’re looking for hotels in Posina, you can start by considering whether trails, cultural heritage or local products will shape your stay.

Hiking Routes and Their Destinations

CAI Trail No. 366, the Strada delle 52 Gallerie del Pasubio, leads from Bocchetta di Campiglia to the Porte del Pasubio. The route comprises 52 galleries carved into the rock and can only be travelled on foot. Its historical background includes the entrance to the first gallery, built in 1917. The trail’s name, course and construction combine a specific hiking route with a testament to the history of the First World War.

A municipal route guide, updated on 22 May 2025, lists other trails with clearly identified starting points and destinations. CAI Trail No. 377 leads from ContrĂ  Lissa through the Val Sorapache to the Porte del Pasubio. CAI Trail No. 480 runs from Fusine through the Val del Rio to Pria ForĂ . The route of CAI Trail No. 499 includes ContrĂ  Balan, Colletto di Posina and Monte Novegno. These names make the routes easy to distinguish without combining them into a single stage.

The European long-distance path E5 is also part of Posina’s trail network: the section in question runs between the Porte del Pasubio and Monte Maggio via Passo della Borcola. Along with the destinations on the CAI trails, this offers a choice of several named routes.

Church History and Historic Routes

The original Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia probably dates back to the 13th century. It stood on the Via dei Pastori, a transhumance route that ran from Lessinia to the Asiago plateau. The church is therefore not only a landmark in local church history, but is also connected to a historic route spanning these two geographical endpoints. The church’s most recent restoration took place in 2007.

Gorges, Mountains and Valleys

The road into the Posina Valley passes through the Stretta degli Stancari gorge, formed by the mountains Priaforà and Cimone. Another topographical landmark is Monte Maio, at 1,500 m: it separates Posina’s main valley from the Zara Valley in the municipality of Laghi. These two details describe distinct landscape features—a gorge along the road into the valley and a divide between two valley areas.

Products from Val Posina

The limited, mostly sandy cultivated areas in Val Posina make it possible to grow potatoes and beans, among other crops. Potato varieties grown there include Bintje, Desirèe and Kennebek, with smaller quantities of Spunta, Liseta and Primura. The highly prized, floury potatoes are excellent for making gnocchi, considered a culinary speciality of Posina. This links a specific local product with a dish that is a mainstay of local cuisine.

Other products include mineral water that emerges from the rock in Posina and is bottled under the name Fonti di Posina. The trout-filled streams around Posina are also a sporting attraction. Along with potatoes, beans and gnocchi, these products and natural features give the region its distinctive culinary and landscape character.
