Asiago: Experience Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Asiago
When choosing a stay in Asiago, science, museums, and nature trails offer practical starting points. The themes range from astronomical instruments and exhibitions to circular routes through forests and pastures. Consider which of these you want to shape your trip: the area offers both cultural destinations and different ways to experience the landscape.
Astronomy and Exhibitions
The Cima Ekar observing station in Asiago is operated by the INAF Astronomical Observatory of Padua. Its equipment includes the 1.82-metre Copernico telescope and a fully robotic Schmidt 67/92 wide-field telescope. These specific instruments give astronomy its own place among the experiences in Asiago.
The Museo Le Carceri offers a different cultural perspective. It is housed in the former prison, where themed exhibitions on art, history, and the traditions of the Asiago Plateau are held regularly. The historic setting of the building and the changing exhibition themes come together here with the culture of the plateau.
Natural History and Places of Remembrance
The Museo Naturalistico di Asiago preserves and displays natural history specimens from the Asiago Plateau area. It also offers educational, outreach, and research activities. Natural history collections and the communication of knowledge about the plateau thus complement the Museo Le Carceri’s exhibitions on art, history, and traditions—two different ways to explore the region.
A small museum is located near the entrance to the ossuary crypt. It displays war relics collected from the plateau’s battlefields, as well as historical documents and photographs. If you are interested in the region’s history, this offers another thematic focus alongside the exhibitions and natural history collections.
Trails for Families and Nature Enthusiasts
The Sentiero del Maestro Patrizio is an easy circular route of about 3.7 kilometres, with gentle climbs, and is suitable for families. It passes through beech and spruce forests, across pastures, and by alpine pools. Its length, difficulty rating, and landscape give a clear picture of the trail without limiting its description to a particular way of getting around.
The Villaggio degli Gnomi is a family-oriented nature attraction in a forest near the centre of Asiago. Small houses are hidden among the trees and rocks. The trail crosses green meadows, passes through old forests and historic tunnels, and serves as an educational walk through the world of gnomes and the forest. This gives visitors two different nature experiences to choose from: a circular route with a stated length and landscape, and a themed walk that brings the forest and the world of gnomes together.
A Circular Route for Different Ways of Getting Around
The Contrada Ave – Prunno – Asiago circular route is suitable for travellers staying in the plateau’s main town. You can use it on foot, by mountain bike, on horseback, or on snowshoes. This sets its description apart from that of the Sentiero del Maestro Patrizio: here, several ways of getting around are listed, while the other trail is described in terms of its length, difficulty, and landscape. The S. Carlo votive chapel is a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.
