Bosco di Tretto appeals to travelers who want to choose a destination based on specifically named hiking trails and their starting points. The trails differ in their CAI markers, roads to named Colletti, elevation figures, and varied landscapes. This makes it possible to plan a stay around historic access routes to mountain pastures, wooded slopes, military mule tracks, and ridge paths. To help choose a route, first check the full trail name and its starting point.

CAI Trail 444 and “Luci da est”

CAI hiking trail 444 leads from Bosco di Tretto to its junction with trail 455 at an elevation of 1,375 meters. The elevation refers to this endpoint; together with trail number 455, it provides a clearly identified reference point. “Luci da est” also starts in Bosco di Tretto, at the CAI marker for trail 444. The hike follows one of the oldest access routes to the eastern and central mountain pastures of Monte Novegno. Thus, two distinct trail references converge on one place name: for trail 444, the junction at 1,375 meters is the described destination, while for “Luci da est,” the trail marker and the old access route to the mountain pastures are the practical reference points.

Access via Colletto di Velo

From Bosco di Tretto, the access route to the “Cammino della memoria” follows the road to Colletto di Velo and Monte Summano. After about 400 meters on the unpaved section, a CAI-marked spot indicates the starting point. The trail crosses the wooded slopes of Brazome along a military mule track. The starting point and the named route through the landscape give you concrete landmarks for distinguishing this hike from others in the area. Since access includes an unpaved section, it is advisable to check its conditions before setting out.

“Sulle orme del camoscio” also starts in Bosco di Tretto, accessed via the road to Passo Colletto di Velo. After about 400 meters on the unpaved section, a CAI-marked spot indicates the starting point. From there, the route follows the southeastern ridge of the Novegno massif and runs mostly along a military mule track that climbs the slopes of Rozzo Covole. Both trails describe a similar unpaved stretch leading to the CAI marker; their landscape features set them apart: the “Cammino della memoria” follows the wooded slopes of Brazome, while “Sulle orme del camoscio” follows the Novegno ridge and the slopes of Rozzo Covole.

Ridge route and travel

“Sulle creste del Summano” offers a different kind of topographic reference. The trail can start at Colletto Grande di Velo in Bosco di Tretto and is marked as trail 462A. It is well marked and follows a series of ascents and descents, running partly along ridges and partly through the woods on the ridge. When choosing this route, you can use the starting point, trail number, and varied course as your reference. This distinguishes it from the access routes where an unpaved stretch of about 400 meters leads to a CAI-marked spot.

For road access to Bosco di Tretto, Provincial Road 65 provides a specific reference: it starts in Santorso and passes through the Schio hamlets of S. Maria and S. Ulderico. Traveling to the destination and reaching the starting point of a particular hike are separate planning considerations. For the “Cammino della memoria” and “Sulle orme del camoscio,” the directions also include roads to the respective Colletti and an unpaved section. This lets you first plan the route to Bosco di Tretto and then consider the starting point of your chosen trail.
