Faggeto Lario: Trails, Gorges and Culture
Accommodation in Faggeto Lario
Hiking trails, natural formations and historic sites give Faggeto Lario a variety of attractions. Old mule tracks, wooded trails and gorges offer different themes for planning your trip; churches and the annual Sagra del Torchio add to the cultural offerings. When choosing where to stay, consider whether you want to focus on hiking, natural attractions or history.
Hiking trails and orientation
The network of old mule tracks runs from Riva to Molina, Lemna and Palanzo and is now used as a network of hiking trails. Each of the three mule tracks takes about 30 minutes; the mule tracks of Faggeto Lario climb around 500 metres in elevation. These details are useful for different aspects of planning: the time gives an approximate duration, while the elevation indicates the change in height.
During the summer months, a free shuttle bus connects the mountainous part of the municipality with the lakeside part. Residents and tourists can use it. Timetables may vary; check the times for your travel dates.
Church and path to Madonna del Soldo
The path to the Chiesa della Madonna del Soldo reaches the church after about 15 minutes. Along the way, you pass several votive chapels; some have recently been restored. The church, also known as Chiesa dell’Addolorata, was built in the second half of the 16th century. It stands on a panoramic terrace with benches and a large meadow. This path thus combines stops along the way with a clearly identified destination.
Nature: Gorges and beech forest
The Orrido di Riva is a natural canyon formed by centuries of water erosion. A walk there takes about 20 minutes and leads to waterfalls and natural pools carved into the rock. The Orrido di Molina features a cascade over 50 metres high and a fissure in the limestone.
The Sentiero dei Faggi is about 3 kilometres long, runs through a dense beech forest and connects the Bocchetta di Molina with the Bocchetta di Lemna. The mule tracks can be assessed by their approximate walking time, while the Sentiero dei Faggi can be described by its length, forest and the two Bocchette as endpoints.
The Orrido di Faggeto Lario can also be reached by boat or bus. Connections and timetables may change; check them before travelling. According to a municipal notice dated 25 May 2026, the path at the Orrido di Faggeto Lario is not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs.
Wine pressing and event
At the annual Sagra del Torchio, visitors can watch the grapes being pressed and taste freshly made must. Dates may vary; check the dates for your planned stay.
The Torchio di Palanzo is an ancient wine press dating from 1572. It was made from a single chestnut trunk, 12 metres long and 3 metres in circumference.
