Discover Corrido: Trails, Views and Church Art
Accommodation in Corrido
When planning a stay in Corrido, trails, views and architectural history each play a different role. The routes differ mainly in their destinations and courses: one climbs from Pineta Ponte di Basso to Buggiolo, another crosses four valleys, and a circular route reaches Corrido via two named roads after passing through Val Rezzo. To choose a route, you can start by considering its destination, the valleys it crosses and the roads it follows.
Trails through the valleys
The trail from Pineta Ponte di Basso in Corrido climbs to the village of Buggiolo in the municipality of Val Rezzo. Locally, this route is also known as the Sentiero del Partigiano. Pineta Ponte di Basso and Buggiolo identify the trail’s course, while Sentiero del Partigiano is its local name.
The Sentiero delle Quattro Valli crosses Val Sanagra, Val Cavargna, Val Rezzo and Valsolda. It is a branch of the trail marked with number 3, which indirectly connects the Lario trail network with Corrido. Unlike the trail to Buggiolo, its focus is on four named valleys rather than a single destination. Another route is the circular trail through Val Cavargna: after reaching the small village of Val Rezzo, it follows the SP10 and then the SP11 to the village of Corrido.
Views and church architecture
The parish church of Santi Martino e Materno stands on a panoramic terrace at the entrance to Val Rezzo and offers a view across Val Menaggio. This view can vary with the seasons. There are also numerous viewpoints along the trail from Pineta Ponte di Basso to Buggiolo. Depending on the weather, views may open up from there across Val Menaggio and the three lake basins that define the valley.
In the late 16th century, an existing church building was replaced with a new one. The church of Santi Materno e Martino contains paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, contemporary frescoes and Baroque polychrome scagliola altar frontals from the workshop of the “magistri intelvesi”. The church’s architectural history and furnishings thus offer different cultural and historical perspectives.
Bridge and historic wine tradition
The Ponte del Saltone lies on the road connecting Corrido and Carlazzo. It was built over a deep gorge carved by the Torrente Cuccio. The road connection indicates its location, while the gorge shapes the terrain beneath the bridge. The Punto Panoramico Vesetto is designated for protection because of its exceptionally beautiful views.
The area’s past winegrowing is also part of its local history. The local vines once produced a light-coloured, light-bodied wine known locally as “el ciarèl”. This historic wine production adds another facet of local life to the trails and buildings.
