Anzano Del Parco: Villa Carcano and local history
Accommodation in Anzano Del Parco
If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Anzano Del Parco, you can get to know the town through its architectural and park history. Villa Carcano, the churches, and a preserved entrance in the historic center offer different points of interest, from the creation of a landscaped park to older clues to the history of the municipality.
Villa Carcano: building history and park
Villa Carcano was built between 1794 and 1795 for Marchese Alessandro Carcano, to a design by Leopold Pollack. It was built on the site of an existing 17th-century country house. This means that two periods stand side by side in its building history: the older country house and the later villa.
Villa Carcano’s park was laid out around 1810 in the style of a landscape park and covers more than 40 hectares. It extends along the slopes of a hill and offers views of Lago di Alserio, the Grigne, and Resegone. Thus, the villa’s construction and the creation of the park represent two distinct historical stages.
Water lilies and wildlife characterize the area around the main lake, where there are also two small islands. A promontory is traversed by a tunnel that was once navigable. The Del Lazzaretto Chapel stands at the northern edge of the park.
Churches and historical traces
The entrance to a former castle still stands in the historic center. Visible grooves are thought to indicate the presence of a former drawbridge.
The Church of the Addolorata was founded by the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament (Confraternita del Santissimo Sacramento). This small, single-nave church has one bay, a groin vault, and a semicircular apse. A bay is a section of the church interior; the apse is the rounded end, and the groin vault is the form of the ceiling.
The church of Anzano is first mentioned in the 13th century in a list of places of worship dedicated to Saint Michael. On October 26, 1562, Monsignor Gerolamo Ferragatta consecrated the church on behalf of Carlo Borromeo. An account of the pastoral visit on April 25, 1574, describes it as a single-nave church with two altars and a ceiling supported by two large arches.
Choosing a hotel and getting there
A municipal notice dated May 8, 2026, places Anzano Del Parco within the protected area of Parco Valle Lambro. These topics offer different perspectives on history and architecture: the villa and landscape park represent two stages of development, while the information about the churches focuses on dates, their founding context, and architectural forms. Anzano Del Parco has a railway station on the Como–Lecco line. If you are traveling by train, check the timetable for your travel date and include the station in your plans.
