Accommodation in Orsenigo
Get to know Orsenigo through its architectural history, landscapes and cultural events. The Church of San Biagio, the Lavatoio di Parzano and the villas represent different historical and contemporary uses; La Brughiera adds heathland, woodland paths and wildlife to these themes. When planning your trip, you can therefore first decide whether you are especially interested in architectural history, nature or an event.
Church, Lavatoio and villas
San Biagio already existed in the second half of the 13th century; the present-day church was built in 1938, partly on the footprint of the older church. This timeline shows that the long history of the church site and the construction of the present-day church do not date from the same period. The Lavatoio di Parzano was restored in 2002; original brick and stone elements were uncovered again, and the surrounding green space was redesigned. In the warmer months, residents of the village meet there to talk and relax in the shade. The memorial plaque to Simone da Orsenigo commemorates him as the first chief engineer of the works on Milan Cathedral.
The first historical records of Villa del Soldo date back to the Teresiano cadastre. At the time, the complex was rural property belonging to the nuns of San Leonardo in Como and was used for agriculture. The limonaia is now used for meetings and concerts. If you would like to visit it, check access directly with the estate. The villa's garden covers 100,000 m²; numerous paths connect the buildings there.
A distinctive feature of Villa Minoli-Marelli is the wrought-iron walkway connecting its two parts. The traditional music and cultural series Musica in Villa also includes an event at Villa Minoli-Marelli in Orsenigo. If you would like to plan your trip around the series, check the event dates for your chosen period.
La Brughiera and nature trails
La Brughiera is a green heathland area, named after the purple-flowering heather that is especially common there. Several trails run through woodland in La Brughiera, where squirrels and other wildlife, including hedgehogs, dormice and stone martens, can be found. For nature lovers, this offers a different focus from the historic buildings: the emphasis here is on landscapes, woodland paths and wildlife.
Getting there by bus
Bus route C45 Como–Inverigo–Cantù connects Orsenigo with Como and Cantù. It stops at Sospirata in the area of the Briantea state road, as well as at the intersection of Via per Erba and Provincial Road 38 near the town hall. Check the current timetable before travelling and choose between the two stops based on your specific destination.
These details have different timeframes to consider when planning your trip: the church and memorial plaque offer insights into history; the Lavatoio's social use is tied to the warmer months, while Musica in Villa and bus travel bring specific event dates and timetables into the picture. You can therefore plan your stay around either a lasting interest or a particular travel date.
