Accommodation in Brombachtal
If you are looking for a hotel in Brombachtal, named circular trails, the gallows stones on Galgenberg and panoramic views of the Odenwald offer specific themes to consider when planning your trip. The trails’ starting points and the historical context of Galgenberg provide different points of interest. You can also explore other destinations in the wider Odenwald travel region.
Circular Trails and Landscape
The six named circular trails can be distinguished by their starting points. The B 1 circular trail (Müllertsweg) begins in Birkert. The B 3 circular trail (Panoramaweg), the B 4 circular trail (Brombach-Weg) and the Eichelsrundweg begin in Kirchbrombach. The B 5 circular trail (Russeneiche Weg) begins in Langenbrombach, and the B 6 circular trail (Höller Weg) in Hembach. Kirchbrombach is therefore the starting point for three of the named routes; the other three start in Birkert, Langenbrombach and Hembach.
The XXL bench in Langenbrombach offers a different way to experience the landscape: from there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Odenwald. If you want to take in the scenery as well as walk the circular trails, the bench is another point to include in your travel plans.
History at Galgenberg
The gallows stones on Galgenberg, between Kirchbrombach and Hembach, are believed to be the remains of a three-beam wooden gallows that belonged to the jurisdiction of the Zent Kirchbrombach. The oldest known record of the gallows is on a map from 1610. Public executions at the gallows on Galgenberg ceased in the mid-19th century.
These dates mark different historical reference points: 1610 is the date of the oldest known record, while the mid-19th century marks the end of public executions. This distinguishes the written record from the later history of its use, while the interpretation of the stones as remains of the wooden gallows remains probable.
More to Explore in the Odenwald
Historic buildings and geology add to the range of subjects to explore in the wider Odenwald travel region. Breuberg Castle has a history spanning more than 850 years and is one of the largest and best-preserved castles in southern Germany. The Breuberg Museum is located inside the castle. Another historic site is the Roman Villa Haselburg near Hummetroth, an excavated and reconstructed villa rustica dating from the 2nd century AD.
The geology of the Odenwald offers another perspective. The crystalline Odenwald contains plutonic rocks such as gabbro, diorite, granodiorite and granite, as well as metamorphic rocks. The latter provide evidence of a continent-continent collision 400 to 320 million years ago. The Felsenmeer in Lautertal was formed by geological processes that began more than 340 million years ago. Remains of Roman stoneworking from the 3rd and 4th centuries also give it historical significance.
The Felsenmeer Information Centre provides information about how the Felsenmeer formed, Roman stoneworking, the Siegfried Spring and the BergstraĂźe-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park. Guided tours and talks on geological development, stoneworking, legends, wildlife and the habitat of Felsberg can be booked there. Check current booking availability before making specific plans.
