Get to know Anzing from different perspectives: through the parish and pilgrimage church of the Nativity of Mary, the historic former postal station building, and the landscape on the northwestern edge of Ebersberger Forst. For planning your trip, bus connections to Munich and specific places within the municipality are also relevant. If you are looking for a hotel in Anzing, you can take these different interests into account when planning your stay.

Landscape and orientation

The political municipality of Anzing comprises 18 districts. It lies in a flat landscape east of an old moraine that runs from south to north, on the northwestern edge of Ebersberger Forst. The flat terrain, the line of the moraine and the edge of the forest define the landscape’s spatial setting. This description refers to the municipality and its districts.

Pilgrimage church and local history

The parish and pilgrimage church of the Nativity of Mary in Anzing was built between 1677 and 1681 at the behest of the Scapular Brotherhood. It remains a place of pilgrimage to this day; the focus is the miraculous image on the high altar. Zwergers predominantly geometric-linear stucco decoration shapes the church interior in both the nave and the choir. The construction period, its continued significance as a place of pilgrimage and its decoration are distinct aspects of this building’s history.

The Alte Post inn and the former postal station at Hirnerstraße 2 also tell the story of the town’s architectural history. The two-storey, plastered gabled building has two projecting upper-storey bays, a Baroque portal and a steep gabled roof. Dendrochronological analysis dates the building to 1676; it probably has a core dating from the 16th century. It was converted and extended in the 19th century. The dating and later alterations show that its architectural history spans several periods.

Bus connections and places in the municipality

The playground and ball court on Lärchenstraße offer a long slide, a boules court and a table-tennis table. The Oansa Café is located on the ground floor of the municipal building, next to the Floraldikum flower shop. If you are planning to visit, check the opening hours in advance.

More perspectives in the wider destination of Ebersberg

In the wider destination of Ebersberg, the observation tower in Ebersberger Forst offers another perspective on the landscape: climb its 169 steps for views across the Alpine foothills, from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu. On exceptionally clear days, you can also see distant peaks over 3,000 metres high. These views therefore depend on a specific condition: far-off peaks are visible only when visibility is exceptionally good.

The Museum of Forest and Environment has been located right beside Ebersberger Forst since 2004 and focuses on the history of forest use and forest ecology. The Ebersberger Forst Environmental Education Centre is an award-winning institution that hosts events on education for sustainable development. These take place mainly outdoors and in the adjacent forest; visits by school classes and other groups are possible. Thus, alongside Anzing’s local and church heritage, Ebersberg also focuses on its own themes of forest and the environment.
