Jalovec brings together historic buildings and traces of former trades with specific landscape and cycling connections. When planning a stay, it is helpful to distinguish between these topics: the church and the nearby memorial offer a glimpse into local history, while waterways, Jalovské Lazy and a cycling route that passes through Jalovec offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Jalovec, you can first decide what you would like to focus on during your trip and then search for a hotel more specifically.

Church and Remembrance

The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Kostol Božského srdca Ježišovho) was built in 1927 in the historicist style, with neoclassical and neo-Romanesque elements. It originally served as a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary; it was reconsecrated on 27 September 1992. Its construction date, former function and later reconsecration can thus be seen as distinct stages in its history.

A memorial to those who fell in the Second World War stands beside the church. The two neighboring sites have different emphases: the church represents sacred architecture and its history of use, while the memorial commemorates those who fell.

Crafts and Traces of Trade

Historic craft traditions span several periods. In the 16th century, they included woven brooms; in the mid-19th century, shingles and birchwood rings were added. Later, shepherds’ vessels, Fujara flutes and pipes were part of the range of crafts. This sequence places these crafts in different periods of local history.

In the Huňov forest, within the municipality of Jalovec, the Pálffy family built a glassworks with five melting furnaces in 1749–1750. The glassworks no longer stands; traces of its foundations and shards of glass remain at the former site. The remains of the Pálffy mill are still visible in Jalovec. You can therefore find different evidence of former trades: traces of foundations and glass shards at the former glassworks site, and visible remains of the mill.

Modern History and Remembrance

The partisan bunker on Humnište was built in 1944 as accommodation for the Slovan Ráztočno partisan unit. It was restored and opened to the public in 2014 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. If you would like to visit the bunker, check the current access arrangements in advance.

Landscape and Cycling Route

The Handlovka and Jalovský potok rivers flow through Jalovec. Jalovské Lazy lies within the municipality at an elevation of over 800 m and includes a small meadow. Alongside historic buildings and traces of former trades, the landscape is also characterized by named waterways and a specific elevation.

The 11.6 km Nedožery–Brezany–Malá Čausa–Chrenovec–Jalovec–Ráztočno–Remata cycling route passes through Jalovec. The distance refers to the entire route, which runs through several places. This quantified cycling route offers a planning reference alongside the dated cultural history: one point of reference is the total route length, the other is the chronology of local history.
