In Nitrianske Pravno, the attractions range from a distinctive town hall on the main square and a history of sacred architecture to collections, a nature trail and a challenging cycling route.

Town Hall and Parish Church

The old town hall is Nitrianske Pravno’s distinctive building and dominates the main square. The Roman Catholic parish church is dedicated to St John the Baptist. Originally, it was a stone Gothic church built in the first decades after the town was founded.

Kalvária and Historical Traces

Kalvária stands on Galgensberg hill, a unique complex of 27 sacred buildings in the neo-Gothic style. Fourteen Stations of the Cross chapels are linked by a winding path. The upper part of Kalvária offers a view over the Upper Nitra Basin.

The wooden bell tower in Vyšehradné was built in 1802 and designated a national cultural monument in 1996. It is one of the oldest bell towers of its kind in Slovakia. Vyšehrad has evidence of the earliest settlement from the Late Stone Age and Late Bronze Age, as well as traces of Slavic settlement.

Museums and Collections

The Haronika House in Vyšehradné is home to a small museum about domestic life and traditional clothing, as well as the “Keramika Haronika” pottery workshop. The collection includes ceramic vessels, folk-art objects made of metal, wood, leather and textiles, and old traditional costumes. Here, themes of domestic life and clothing meet a variety of materials and forms of folk art.

The Museum of the Carpathian Germans in Bratislava has a permanent exhibition entitled “History and Culture of the Carpathian Germans in Hauerland”. The Haronika collection focuses on objects and traditional clothing; the permanent exhibition is devoted to the history and culture of the Carpathian Germans in Hauerland. Arrange your visit to the Museum of the Carpathian Germans by phone in advance, as visits are by prior telephone appointment.

Exploring on Foot and by Bike

The Solka–Vyšehrad nature trail is a circular route of about 8 km with a moderate level of difficulty. When planning your time, allow for the 495 m of elevation gain and an estimated walking time of about three to four hours. The trail introduces the area’s history and provides information about local fauna and flora.

A cycling route starts in Nitrianske Pravno, goes via Tužina towards Temeš, and returns to Nitrianske Pravno via Handlová, Remata and Ráztočno. It is intended for more experienced cyclists and includes climbs to mountain passes as well as riding on paved and unpaved forest roads.

When choosing between the two routes, it helps to consider the difference in their profiles: the nature trail is a moderately difficult circular route with an approximate walking time and themes from nature and history. The cycling route is intended for more experienced cyclists and includes climbs as well as paved and unpaved forest roads.
