Poluvsie brings living folklore together with a landscape shaped by rivers and mountains. For a culturally focused trip, the performances of the Lubená folklore group, the annual commemoration of Jozef Strečanský, and the historic “Števke” dwelling are among the defining themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Poluvsie, you can factor these interests, along with the landscape, water, and season, into your travel plans.

Folklore and Events

The Lubená folklore group performs traditional songs, dances, and customs. The annual Jozef Strečanský commemoration is held in honour of the collector and folklorist Jozef Strečanský. A repertoire performed by the group and a recurring commemoration thus stand side by side as two distinct expressions of local culture.

The programme of the 2026 “V poluskej dedine” folklore festival included a dance school and creative workshops on traditional crafts for visitors. Tastings of regional specialities, prepared by local homemakers, were also part of the programme. These activities are specific to the 2026 festival programme. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the relevant dates and programme information in advance.

As part of Michal’s annual project, the outdoor adventure and educational game “Michalov poklad” was created in Poluvsie. If you would like to include the game in your plans, check locally in advance whether it is currently accessible.

The “Števke” Dwelling and Its Architectural History

The “Števke” dwelling is preserved as a national cultural monument. It is a simple through-house type with a lowered attic, once used to store grain or goods sensitive to moisture. A row of small windows on the façade is aligned axially with the windows of the living floor. The description of the house thus links a specific architectural form with the former purpose of the attic space.

The church in Poluvsie also preserves the altar from the former chapel.

Rivers, Basin, and Wetland

Together with the neighbouring municipalities, Poluvsie lies in the Hornonitra Basin, which is surrounded by mountain ranges and mountains on almost all sides. The Nitra flows through the municipality. The smaller Lubená stream also crosses it, flowing from Zadný diel mountain. Thus, a river, a smaller stream, and the broader mountain setting are all part of the landscape.

The local marsh is a wetland habitat with a variety of plant species, some rare, as well as frogs. It is used for fishing and, in winter, as an area for playing ice hockey. Fishing also takes place in the old riverbed of the Nitra, and Poluvsie is visited relatively often by anglers. If you plan to fish, check the applicable conditions in advance.

Fruit Growing and Getting There

Poluvsie is a traditional fruit-growing region with a long-standing tradition of apple cultivation. This agricultural aspect adds another local focus alongside the folklore and architectural history.

Road I/64, connecting Komárno–Nitra–Prievidza–Žilina, links Poluvsie to the wider transport network. It connects the Ponitrie region with northern Slovakia, the Turiec region, and the upper Váh area. For travel plans spanning these regions, this road link is a specific connection between Poluvsie and the wider area.
