Malé Uherce: Baroque Architecture and Protected Nature
Accommodation in Malé Uherce
Malé Uherce combines Baroque architectural history, a memorial site, and nature attractions with practical information about routes and transport. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to the town, you can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you are mainly interested in buildings and memorials, walks, or cycling routes. The town’s features offer several distinct points of interest.
Architectural History and Memorial Sites
The Chapel of St. Anne (Kaplnka sv. Anny) is a Baroque religious building constructed in 1719. The manor house, also Baroque, dates from the 18th century and stands near the center of Malé Uherce. The chapel and manor house represent different aspects of the town’s history: a religious building with a precise construction date, and an 18th-century manor house located near the town center.
Of the farmstead complex, the former granary is the only surviving agricultural building. This brings the former farmstead complex into view alongside the religious building and the manor house. Pomník prísahy is a memorial site with a monument dedicated to the partisan oath. The monument is listed as a national cultural monument in Malé Uherce.
Landscape and Walks
Malé Uherce lies at the transition between the southwestern foothills of the Hornonitrianska kotlina Basin and the Tribeč Mountains. The town also lies on the Nitra floodplain and on the alluvial fan of its left-bank tributary. Part of the CHKO Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area lies at the southern end of the cadastral territory. There, forest complexes with diverse morphological and relief features, as well as remnants of thermophilous flora, are protected. This protected-area designation applies to this part of the territory, not to the town as a whole.
The forest above Malé Uherce, near Štále, is used for walks. If you would like to walk there, check local conditions before your visit.
Routes and Getting There
Within Malé Uherce, the red route passes Kostol svätej Anny and Kostol svätého Tomáša and continues to the Malé Uherce signpost. The Partizánske cycle route follows the red-marked route from an intersection with a cycling signpost to Malé Uherce. Check the markings on site if you plan to follow this route description.
Railway line 391 between Nové Zámky and Prievidza passes through Malé Uherce; however, there is no railway stop in the town. So, the fact that a line passes through the town does not mean you can board or alight there. If you plan to travel by train, check the appropriate connection and its stops.
