In Pažiť, the Bojnický cycling circuit and a layered local history sit side by side. The regional cycling loop passes through the village; its history includes the Church of Saint Dominic Savio, a historic agricultural building and archaeological traces in the surrounding area. The Nitra, Drahožica and Pažický potok also feature, each with a different relationship to the settlement area.

Rivers and landscape

The Nitra runs directly alongside Pažiť. The Drahožica stream runs along the edge of the village, while the Pažický potok flows through the old part of the village. The three bodies of water can therefore be distinguished by their respective relationships to Pažiť: a river boundary, the village outskirts and a course through the old part of the village. South of Pažiť, the land is covered by forests that are part of the CHKO Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area.

The village’s origins are also connected with the landscape. Pažiť was established within the municipal area of Veľké Uherce, on a meadow on a terrace beside the Nitra and the Mohelnica stream. The Nitra therefore features both in the historical account of the village’s origins and in its present-day relationship with Pažiť; Mohelnica is part of the village’s origin story.

Cycling and summer activities

The Bojnický cycling circuit is a 162-kilometre regional loop. It passes through Pažiť and other municipalities in the Partizánske District. The route description, last updated in 2019, identifies the route as marked in blue and states that the full loop can be completed in two days. This time estimate applies to the entire loop, not just the section through Pažiť. Check the current route markings and conditions before setting out.

An older municipal plan lists cycling, hiking, hunting and fishing in Pažiť and its surroundings as summer activities. If you plan to take part in any of them, check the current local conditions. This retains the seasonal context without presenting the older plan’s information as current guidance on local conditions.

The church and local history

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Dominic Savio in Pažiť was built in 1991. Construction of the present-day church began in 1966, initially as a “house of mourning”, because the political system at the time did not approve the construction of a church. On 23 November 1991, Mons. Rudolf Baláž consecrated the church. The start of construction, the year it was built and its consecration mark different stages in its history.

After 1868, a spacious building was erected on the manor farm to house agricultural machinery and wagons. It was named “MAŠINHAUS”; today, the building is used for furniture production and sales. The writer Rudolf Uhlár (1904–1934) rests in his final resting place in Pažiť.

The area around Pažiť also has a long settlement history. Hradisko, near the village, contains traces of settlement from the Early Bronze Age and Hallstatt period, a cremation cemetery of the Lusatian culture from the Late Bronze Age, and a Celtic-Dacian settlement. Historically, Pažiť and Uherce were administered by castellans based at Sivý Kameň Castle.

Getting there and finding your way around

An older municipal plan lists bus stops on both sides of the road in Pažiť and names SAD Prievidza as the operator of public bus transport, with regional bus routes. Check current routes and service frequency before travelling. For road directions, the plan locates Pažiť near the I/64, an east–west route with a connection to the D1 motorway. Here, too, it is advisable to check current driving conditions before setting out.
