Plevník-Drienové can be explored for trip planning through two themes: the natural environment of the Strážovské vrchy Natura 2000 site and the municipality’s cultural attractions and excursions. At Jazero Sihoť, information about nature and birdwatching sit alongside details about local history. The Dominik Tatarka Memorial Room offers a distinct cultural focus. You can give greater weight to different sides of the place depending on what interests you most about your stay.

Natural Environment and Jazero Sihoť

Plevník-Drienové lies within the Strážovské vrchy Natura 2000 site. This area consists mainly of forest and rocky habitats and is important for the breeding of birds of prey and owls. The species mentioned include the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) and the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus). This natural environment offers a distinct focus alongside the specific destinations in the municipality.

Jazero Sihoť is a body of water created on the site of a former gravel pit in Plevník-Drienové. Along the educational trails, signs provide information about nearby flora and fauna, as well as the history of the municipality and its surroundings. Nature and history come together here: the signs connect information about the surroundings with insights into their past.

Jazero Sihoť also has an area for birdwatching and an introduction to ornithology. A safe route to the water has been created for visitors with disabilities, in cooperation with the municipality. The park at Jazero na Sihoti includes the “NABOSO” barefoot sensory fitness trail.

Fishing is possible at Jazero na Sihoti with a permit. Those interested must call to receive information and instructions on how to obtain a fishing permit. If you plan to fish, check the current procedures in advance.

Excursion Tradition at Malý Manín

A Slovak double cross stands at the viewpoint on Malý Manín. Members of the local tourist association erected it in 2004 with the support of the municipality. The New Year’s Eve excursion to Malý Manín also continues to take place. Afterwards, kapustnica is traditionally served at the hut by Dlhé lúky. The cross and the excursion give the mountain two distinct local connections: a permanent, visible landmark and a recurring New Year tradition.

Literary and Local History

The Dominik Tatarka Memorial Room was established in 1991 on the grounds of the local primary school. Its twelve display cases feature photographs, newspaper articles, documents and manuscripts from the writer’s private and public life. The exhibition brings together different kinds of material, so personal and public aspects of his life are presented along a single visitor route. The school offers expert-led tours for the public. If you plan to take a tour, confirm the date with the school in advance.

The Chapel of Saint Stephen the King is another historic landmark in the municipality. It is a late-classical chapel dating from the mid-19th century. After the previous structure collapsed in 1824, a wooden bell tower with a wooden cross was first erected on the same site in 1831. The chapel itself was completed in 1855. The dates distinguish the temporary interim structure from the chapel completed later, without specifying the earlier building in more detail.

Regular performances by the Dúbravček folk group, including a Christmas program, are also part of cultural life. The group also organizes a carnival procession with masks and the traditional burial of the double bass. Dominika Tatarku Primary School organizes the nationwide literary competition “O cenu Dominika Tatarku”: entries are invited each March, and the awards ceremony is held in May. As exact dates may vary, check the relevant announcement if you wish to plan your trip around the event.
