Liptovská Sielnica combines activities on Liptovská Mara with family attractions and a rich local history. Water activities on Liptovská Mara

Sielnická zátoka is a grassy, stony beach on Liptovská Mara. There is a rental service for various watercraft, as well as coffee, beer and quick meals in the form of snacks. This makes it possible to combine time by the shore with a place to take a break. The availability of rentals and refreshments may change; check these details before your visit.

At Gréta Resort, an organised paddleboarding experience is offered on Liptovská Mara with a trained instructor and refreshments. The launch point is on the resort beach, at the end of the picnic meadow in Liptovská Sielnica. The activity is seasonal and may change. Indoor play and animals

Babyland has a 500 m² indoor playground with a two-storey maze, obstacle course, slides and tunnels. Visitors can also feed horses and other farm animals on the grounds and take part in an animation programme. Activities and available animals may change.

Villa Betula’s animal farm also offers the chance to encounter animals: visitors can see and feed horses, llamas, peacocks and other animals. Those interested in horse riding will find a range of activities at Villa Betula. These include hippotherapy, a basic riding course, rides in the countryside and open air, and riding on the grounds or in a covered riding arena under the guidance of experienced instructors. The programme also includes rental of the riding arena and training with an instructor on your own horse.

Horse riding at Villa Betula is open to the public only by telephone appointment with reception and subject to availability on the day of your visit. So confirm your visit with reception in advance. This will allow you to match the specific riding option to the time actually available, rather than planning an activity without a confirmed appointment.

Local history and historical records

The oldest surviving written mention of Sielnica dates from 1256. At that time, the settlement was royal property and part of the Liptov castle estate belonging to King Béla IV. A later turning point was the flooding of the original settlement by the Liptovská Mara dam: the new settlement was ceremonially opened on 25 August 1974 and lies about two kilometres north of the original village.

The Miniskanzen zatopených obcí commemorates the history and culture of thirteen villages that were submerged by Liptovská Mara. Information panels and historical photographs show houses, churches, schools and other buildings from the affected villages.

A preserved fragment of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary stands on the shore of Liptovská Mara, is visible from afar and is considered one of the oldest churches in Liptov; it is also a much-visited site. Two other churches represent more recent building history: the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built between 1991 and 1997. The municipality describes it as one of the newest churches in Liptov. The Evangelical church was consecrated on 9 August 1992, following approval for the construction of a new church and tower.

Trout at Rybáreň NA HÁKU

Rybáreň NA HÁKU is an unusual wooden complex with a private pond in Liptovská Sielnica. Visitors can catch rainbow trout or brown trout themselves and have their catch prepared on site or take it home. The menu also includes baked and smoked trout, as well as fresh grilled trout fillets with olive oil and rosemary. Since the fishing and food options may change, it is advisable to ask about current options before your visit.
