For a hotel stay in Liptovsky Mikulas, you can choose from cultural history, visual art and outdoor trails. The synagogue and museum focus on different aspects of history, while the gallery is devoted to art spanning several centuries. There are also two trails, each with its own distance and features.

The synagogue and the city’s history

The synagogue was built between 1842 and 1846 as a single-storey Neoclassical building and took on its present form after a reconstruction in 1906. It has been open to the public since 1991 and houses an exhibition on the history of the local Jewish community. A visit therefore brings together two perspectives: the building’s architectural history and the history of the community. The Mosty-Gesharim concert is also held at the synagogue every year. Check the concert date and the latest visitor information before your trip.

Since its founding in 1955, the Múzeum Janka Kráľa has documented the history of Liptovský Mikuláš and made it accessible to the public. In contrast to the exhibition in the synagogue, its focus is on the city’s history, while the synagogue focuses on the local Jewish community. If you are interested in both subjects, you can include them in your stay as distinct historical perspectives. For specific visit planning, it is useful to check the latest access information.

Art and educational activities

The Liptovská galéria Petra Michala Bohúňa is the third-oldest gallery in Slovakia and holds more than 5,500 works. The “Pôvod maľby” exhibition presents paintings, icons and sculptures from the 15th to the 19th century. It brings together different art forms spanning several centuries. If you would rather explore art through an educational activity, “Hviezdy galérie” offers activities for children, students and adults. These can be completed independently and without prior reservation. As exhibitions and programme details may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before your visit.

Trails and outdoor activities

The Háj Flow singletrack is located in Lesopark Háj-Nicovô and is the first official singletrack in Liptovský Mikuláš. It is about 800 metres long, with an elevation difference of 100 metres. The trail is suitable for children as well as experienced trail riders. The ascent follows the official paved Generála P. Kunu road. The starting point is at the end of the meadow by the war memorial; a wooden gate and direction signs mark it. It is advisable to check the latest trail conditions before riding.

The “Príroda a krajina okolo nás” nature trail is 1.3 kilometres long, with an elevation difference of 140 metres. Information boards and picnic spots are located along the route. Compared with Háj Flow, the nature trail is longer and has a greater elevation difference according to the stated measurements; its information boards and rest stops also offer different planning considerations from a trail ride.

The Slovenské múzeum ochrany prírody a jaskyniarstva offers an interactive tour. Visitors can look inside a bear’s den, listen to sounds of nature and animals, and try crawling through a cave. Observation, listening and hands-on activities are all part of the experience. If you are weighing up different activities for your stay, this is a different format from visiting an exhibition or riding a singletrack.
