Vyškovec: Nature and Kopaničář Heritage
Accommodation in Vyškovec
Vyškovec was established around 1730 as a Kopaničář settlement with scattered houses and holiday homes. Wet meadows and pastures are as much a part of the landscape as the chapel, memorial, and folk architecture. If you are looking for a hotel in Vyškovec, these varied attractions can help you decide whether to focus your stay on botanical interests, history, or activities on foot, by bike, and on horseback.
Wet Meadows, Pastures, and Plant Life
The Chmelinec Natural Monument lies on the northeastern edge of Vyškovec, in the valley of the Drietomica stream. It covers 2.8 hectares of wet meadows. The broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis) is abundant in the wetland. At the edges, grazed vegetation of the Carpathian pastures grows, classified as the Anthoxantho-Agrostietum association. The focus here is therefore on wet valley meadows and their plant life.
Ve Vlčí lies south of Vyškovec and covers 21.68 hectares. It features dry, sun-exposed pastures, wetter hollows, and shaded areas; numerous orchid species also grow here. At Pod Hribovňou, remnants of White Carpathian pastures with rare plants have been preserved, including one of the last occurrences of yellow gentian. The different natural attractions therefore range from the wet meadows of Chmelinec to the pastures and rare plants of Ve Vlčí and Pod Hribovňou.
Kopaničář Culture and Historic Sites
The mountain chapel of Panny Marie Královny is the only sanctuary in the White Carpathians built on a mountain ridge. A Mass in honor of Panny Marie Královny is celebrated on the Sunday afternoon closest to August 22. Check the date for your year of travel before your visit.
The Statek Ve Vlčí č.p. 40 farmstead is a folk architecture complex comprising a stable, cellar, and dwelling house. The complex was built in the 1880s; on May 3, 1958, the farmstead was declared a cultural monument. Another historic landmark is the memorial to the American airmen, which is a pilgrimage site in Vyškovec and a frequent destination for tourists.
Smaller cultural details also shape the village: the musical bell tower in Vyškovec starts playing automatically when a visitor arrives. Classic Kopaničář embroidery can also be seen behind glass doors in Vyškovec. It complements the historic buildings and memorials with music and textile folk art.
Hiking, Cycling, and Horse Riding
The Naučná stezka Okolo Hrozenka nature trail is 18 km long, has twelve stops, and is suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Its southern section is 13 km long and has seven stops. It runs from Starý Hrozenkov through Vyškovec and Vápenice and back to Starý Hrozenkov. The figures therefore describe different lengths: the full nature trail and its southern section.
For a cycling trip, the Krajem Žítkovských bohyní circular route passes through Vyškovec. It follows cycling route 46, marked with signs, the NS Moravské Kopanice nature trail, and the long-distance hiking route Stezka Českem. Alongside the nature trail, this offers a dedicated loop and a different selection of marked routes.
JK ACD Vyškovec offers riding lessons and courses, as well as rides in the surrounding area. In basic riding training, riders learn how to care for horses and to ride at a walk, trot, and canter. The course content thus differs from a ride that takes you around the local area. As visitor activities may change, check the latest details with the provider before making plans.
