Marked trails lead through Osvetimany; the town’s history includes the Baroque Church of St. Havel and the traditional havelské hody s právem. Nearby are the rocky landscape of the Chřiby Hills and Hradisko sv. Klimenta.

Hiking Trails and Destinations

Yellow, green and blue marked hiking trails pass through Osvetimany. On the yellow-marked trail, you can reach Sv. Kliment after 5 km and Cimburk after 7.5 km. There is also a 7 km hiking route from Osvetimany via Hora sv. Kliment and Kazatelna to the ruins of Cimburk Castle. These figures describe different routes: the 5 and 7.5 km refer to destinations along the yellow trail, while 7 km is the length of the route via Hora sv. Kliment and Kazatelna. The “Pěšky za skalními útvary v Chřibech” circular walk also begins in Osvetimany.

These route details can help you distinguish between different hiking plans: a trail with named destinations and distances, a route with two explicitly named waypoints, and a circular walk that starts in town. This lets you take the stated destinations and the route’s given total length into account when planning, without treating the figures as if they described the same thing.

Church, Organ and Tradition

Above Osvetimany stands the Baroque Church of St. Havel, a historic landmark more than 300 years old. The church houses a twelve-stop organ built by organ maker Karel Neusser in 1889. The church and this specifically dated instrument offer two distinct connections to the town’s history: Baroque architecture and a named work of organ building.

The traditional havelské hody s právem are held annually in the first half of October. If you are planning a visit during this period, check the specific event dates. The history of the local folk costume involves a different kind of heritage: it was classified as a podhorácký-style costume, but has not survived to the present day. At the Hody in Osvetimany in 2012, the Nedakoňanka brass band accompanied the procession and the evening dance. This performance took place that year and does not describe a current programme.

Rock Landscapes and Day-Trip Destinations

The Chřiby Hills around Osvetimany are shaped by resistant sandstone, hills, rock formations and ridges. The Osvětimanské skály consist of several rock blocks known locally as Čertovky. A well-trodden footpath through mature trees leads to the rocks. Zikmundova skála offers a different view of the landscape: from its flat summit, the view extends across a large part of the Chřiby Hills.

Hradisko sv. Klimenta is also located near Osvetimany. It is a Great Moravian historical site associated with Cyril and Methodius, and is freely accessible year-round. Check the access conditions locally before your visit. If you would also like to spend some time by the water, Osvetimany Reservoir lies nearby in the valley of the Klimentský potok. Its water surface covers 10.5 ha; it is suitable for swimming, leisurely canoe trips and fishing.

Cycling and Winter Sports

For a cycling loop, the Podchřibská Cycle Route No. 8 is a clearly described option: this easy 36.5 km circuit for road and trekking bikes starts and finishes in Osvetimany. Its length, circular route and specified bike types make it a different kind of trip from hiking trails with destinations such as Sv. Kliment or Cimburk.

Ski Park Osvetimany offers skiing and snowboarding on a 400 m slope with a vertical drop of 98 m. You can rent ski and snowboard equipment there; lessons are also available for beginners with no prior experience, children and advanced skiers. Lesson availability may vary by season, and winter sports operating information may also change from season to season. Alongside hiking, cultural history and rock landscapes, cycling and seasonal winter sports offer different ways to shape your stay.
