Suchá Loz lies in the valley of the Bystřička stream; foothills of the White Carpathians stretch along the southern side of the village. Suchá Loz is also located in the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The landscape, village history and regional traditions offer a variety of ways to plan your trip.

Nature and Views

Horní Louky is home to unique flora, including Carpathian orchids known as “stavače.” Plant life varies seasonally, so what you see there also depends on when you visit. If you are particularly interested in the flora, take this seasonal aspect into account when planning your trip.

Pramen Slatina is a carbonated, salty mineral spring with a high lithium content. It is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car. The U Křížku observation tower is also located near Suchá Loz, in the cadastral area of Březová. From there, a semicircular view extends northeast towards Mikulčin vrch, east towards Velký Lopeník and southwest towards Velká Javořina. To the southeast, part of the Považský Inovec in Slovakia can be seen.

Village History and Buildings

An old brick bell tower dating from the 19th century stands in the village square. The Veleckých mill dates from the 18th century. The two buildings therefore represent different historical periods and provide tangible points of reference for the village’s history.

Several religious sites are also associated with specific years or periods. The site dedicated to Saint Roch is dated to 1886, the year a plague epidemic ended in the village. A site in honour of Saints Peter and Paul is dated to the late 18th century. The site in honour of Saints Cyril and Methodius is dated to the 1860s.

Customs and Experiences

Among the folk customs preserved in Suchá Loz is the Kateřinská zábava, featuring the custom “právem žen” and the “o botu” contest. Various social events are held at the Sucholožská chalupa, including Christmas, Easter and the Sucholožské hody festival. Specific event dates may vary; if a particular celebration is important to your trip, check the date in advance.

By arrangement, you can try on the traditional Sucholožský kroj at Berdina. The individual layers of clothing are put on one by one, and a Turkish headscarf is tied. The history and development of the costume are also explained during the fitting.

Cycling Routes and Trip Planning

A 34 km route follows paved cycling paths and, for a short section, field and forest tracks. The cycling route named after Komenský runs from Uherský Brod via Nivnice and Suchá Loz to Bystřice pod Lopeníkem, Komňa and Bojkovice. The information highlights different aspects: the 34 km route specifies its length and surface, while the Komenský cycling route lists the sequence of places.

The different time references associated with local attractions can help you choose when to travel: historic buildings and sites are linked to centuries or years, while the flora varies by season and event dates may change. This allows you to weigh your interests in scenery, cycling, history or a particular celebration when planning, without treating these topics as interchangeable.
