Korytná Between the Valley and the Protected Landscape Area

Korytná lies at an elevation of 340 metres in the Korytnice Valley, on the right bank of the Korytnice stream. The entire cadastral area lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. There are several themes to choose from when planning your trip: landscapes and walking destinations, as well as a church, chapel, local traditions and a museum. You can shape your stay around nature, local history or a combination of both.

Landscapes and Walking Destinations

Most of the non-forested land in Korytná consists of meadows and pastures. The Nové louky natural monument lies within Korytná’s cadastral area, on the right side of the road from Korytná to Strání, about two kilometres from Korytná. In the forest above Korytná, the Smraďačka mineral spring lies at an elevation of 432 metres. Its mineral water is rich in sulphur and salt; the clay is believed to have healing properties. This gives you a choice between open meadows and pastures and a woodland site with a named mineral spring.

The notable Pavlových pear tree is a destination for a walk. You can also walk to the Podseďák reservoir and enjoy the landscape along the way. If you are looking for a specific destination for an outing, the tree and the reservoir are two different options.

Please note the special status of the Obecnice observation tower: a notice published on 23 January 2026 announced that the tower had ceased operations. Because of its inadequate technical condition, safe access was said to be impossible, and entry was prohibited. If you are planning to visit the tower at a later date, check whether a new notice about its future has been issued in the meantime.

Church, Chapel and Local Traditions

The Church of sv. Václava stands in the centre of Korytná on a small rise. Its original building dates from the 14th century; its present appearance is the result of renovations in 1703 and 1723. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity was rebuilt in 1936 after being destroyed following the First World War. For generations, it served as a place to meet, pray and celebrate together. In the past, annual celebrations for the Most Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi were held at the chapel, which was decorated for these festivities.

The Hody in Korytná take place on the last Sunday in September and are associated with the feast of the village’s patron saint, Saint Václav. If you would like to plan your visit around a local tradition, this date provides a specific point of reference in the annual calendar.

Museum and Travel Planning

The Muzeum Korytná 1939–1945 opened in 2024. It displays Second World War military artefacts that come directly from Korytná’s cadastral area. From January 2025, visits were possible on Sundays from 14:00 to 16:00 or by prior telephone arrangement. Before travelling, check whether these visiting arrangements are still in effect.

When looking for a hotel in Korytná, you can first decide whether nature destinations and walks, local history or a visit during the Hody should shape your stay. The destinations and traditions mentioned above give you specific points of reference.
