Discover Pitín: Trails, Landscapes and History
Accommodation in Pitín
Pitín lies on the upper reaches of the Olšava. The entire cadastral area is located in the central part of the Bílé Karpaty, which has been protected as a protected landscape area since 1980. In the Bílé Karpaty, flower-rich orchid meadows alternate with predominantly deciduous forests. For planning your trip, the routes and cultural sites in and around Pitín offer a range of options: cycling connections, nature trails and traces of local history.
Cycling and Nature Trails around Pitín
In Pitín, the regional Bojkovska cycling route No. 5049 from Uherský Brod meets the Beskydsko-karpatic Magistrale No. 46. The Magistrale gives cyclists safe access to the central ridge of the Bílé Karpaty and the Moravské Kopanice region.
The Naučná stezka Bojkovická leads from Bojkovice railway station through Pitín, Hostětín and Šanov to the Na koncích border hill. The longer circular route is 24 kilometres long and the shorter one 16 kilometres; the trail has ten information boards in total. One of them covers Pitín and traditional fruit varieties. The two distances make the difference between the circular route options clear, while the board highlights a local topic along the trail.
Another route, the Naučná stezka Moravské Kopanice, leads to Pitínské Paseky and the Chapel of Panny Marie Kopanické. There, it provides information about the birdlife of the surrounding landscape. The nature trail runs along forest and field paths and is suitable for hikers and mountain bikers. This route therefore focuses both on the character of the trail and on nature topics.
Sculptures, Viewpoints and Landscape
The Sochy v krajině project comprises 15 wooden sculptures, connected by a path and distributed across the cadastral areas of Hostětín, Pitín, Šanov and Rokytnice. The Kráva sculpture stands above Pitín. One stop on the Naučná stezka Naokolo Hostětína is at the Dub rodiny on Pitínské Jahodiska. The more than 100-year-old oak stands on Jahodisko Hill above Pitín. In good visibility, it offers views of Pitín, the Pavlovské vrchy, the Ždánický les, Chřiby and the Vizovická pahorkatina.
The Naučná stezka Naokolo Hostětína also offers views from above Pitín in good visibility: of the towers of three nearby churches, as well as the more distant pilgrimage sites of Velehrad and Hostýn. The Kolelač reservoir can be seen from the viewpoint at Pitín’s former railway station. These viewpoints offer different perspectives, from the village and surrounding landscape features to more distant destinations.
Churches, Chapels and Local History
The Church of St. Stanislav was built in 1851 on the site of an older chapel. Beside the school stands a Baroque stone statue of the Virgin Mary with Child. It is attributed to Josef Winterhalter and was acquired between 1758 and 1774. In Pitínské Paseky, the Chapel of Panny Marie Kopanické was built in 1990 and consecrated on 8 September 1991. Its altar features a figure of the Virgin Mary with Child, depicted in traditional Kopaničár costume.
Another part of local history is associated with Josef Karel Matocha. He was born on 14 May 1888 as the fifth child of the farmer and blacksmith Josef Matocha at No. 59 in Pitín. He died in Olomouc on 2 November 1961 and is buried in the cemetery in his hometown of Pitín. A commemorative plaque was unveiled at his birthplace. The places of his birth, death and burial reflect different geographical connections in his life.
Traditions and Seasonal Planning
The Stanislavské hody take place around 7 May, on the feast day of St. Stanislav. The Orel association also regularly organises the Pitěnský škrpál tourist walking event. In summer, the swimming pool on the grounds of the NIVA sports club is open for use. For planning your day, it is advisable to check the opening dates.
