Slavkov is located in the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The town combines nature conservation with routes, an educational trail and regional traditions. If you are looking for a hotel in Slavkov, you can plan your stay around the focus of your trip: nature, outdoor activities or a cultural event.

Nature conservation and plant species

The Dolnoněmčanské louky Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Slavkov u Uherského Brodu. It protects a landscape of ecological value with significant plant and animal communities. The Porážky National Nature Reserve is home to the only known site of robust lousewort in all of Central Europe. The Kolo Nature Reserve has species-rich wetland vegetation and a significant population of flesh-coloured orchids. The highly endangered snake garlic occurs in Slavkovský háj.

The nature-related highlights offer a range of different themes: a unique site in Central Europe, wetland vegetation with an orchid population, and the presence of a highly endangered plant species. Visitors interested in plants and protected areas will find several distinct themes to consider when planning their trip.

Routes, educational trail and nature visits

Lucká hledačka comprises two routes jointly prepared by the town of Hluk and the municipalities of Slavkov and Dolní Němčí. Route A runs from Horní Němčí through Slavkov to Dolní Němčí. The “Kronika slavkovské krajiny” educational trail has ten stations and starts in front of the Charitní dům sv. Petra a Pavla. The two options offer different ways to find your way around: one route with a clearly defined sequence of places, and an educational trail with a set number of stations.

The summit of Velká Javořina can be reached from Slavkov by bicycle or on foot. The Lucké pole memorial site is accessible via newly built cycle paths. As cycling infrastructure can change, check current cycling conditions before setting out.

ČSOP Pantoflíček organizes nature excursions on request several times a year for tourists and people interested in nature in the region. Requests are especially frequent during the orchid flowering season, which varies from year to year. Guided visits to some nature reserves are also possible from Slavkov. Check in advance whether a guide is available.

Bell tower, memorial tree and folklore

In the centre of Slavkov stands a bell tower dating from 1927, built on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. The memorial pear tree in the Horní pole area has stood for more than 300 years on the boundary between Horní Němčí and Slavkov. In 2009, the administration of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area designated it a memorial tree. The bell tower and the tree thus represent different forms of local remembrance: a rebuilt structure in the town centre and a tree designated as a memorial on the municipal boundary.

Folklorní den takes place in August of every even-numbered year. It features traditional costumes, folklore ensembles from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and a fair showcasing traditional crafts. If the event is important to your stay, check the date before you travel.

The landscape of Lucké pole is also associated with history: the troops of the Bohemian Prince Vladislav I and the Hungarian King Štěpán II met there. Under unclear circumstances, a clash eventually took place; the exact location of the battlefield is uncertain. This historical tradition adds to the nature and folklore themes without identifying a specific site of the battle.
